Holy shit. I thought Obsidian was lost forever. It was available through other means, but I could never get it to work on modern machines. I remember playing this as a stupid kid and never getting past the early large six sided bureaucracy room with the cubicles (the one in this screenshot). Always wanted to see what was past that but never wanted to look up a let's play so I could experience it myself. Finally I have my chance!
yeah, it's always great seeing those old obscure games pop up on steam

I have no intention of getting in the LTT drama or whatever, but the dip in quality in the last couple of years has been felt. I talked about this with some people and said that they were doing way too many videos through way too many channels and that's something apparently being pointed out.

2017: Eat the rich

2023: Tax the rich

whenever this game comes out: BEAT THE SHIT OUTTA THE RICH AND THEN ROBIN HOOD THEM FOR THE GOVERNMENT

Who says video games aren't political

this game literally says you should wall jump and bodyslam yer local businessman into the concrete and then robin hood them into the poor house

Looks like the amount of user reviews for BG3 has basically doubled since release 12 days ago. It was around 85k iirc and now well over 160k.

Larian said the game sold 2.5 million during early access so we can estimate they are at about 5 million now. And of course the game will continue to sell for years so I think a rough estimate of 10 million lifetime on PC is a good guess. If they can get about 5 million on PS5 and Xbox plus other future consoles like Switch 2 etc.

So we are talking of a possible 15 million lifetime sales give or take a few million. Really incredible for Larian. They go from kickstarter and early access to making one of the best and biggest games ever. The next game they make will be massive. I wonder what kind of plans they have for dlc or expansions. And if those plans have changed now with how successful this launch was.

Also if someone was ever to acquire them in the future the price just went up lol by a lot.

If you start tracing money that is invested in gaming companies by big corporations and rich individuals you won't like it any more than Saudi money investment.
While there's always some ethically questionable funding associated with large corporations, equating that to being directly funded by bonesaw money goes a bit too far IMHO.

I.e. I would not be surprised in the least if Lars Wingefors isn't a nice guy, but he also doesn't represent a suppressive religious fundamentalist oil regime.

Isn't this a terrible change for many countries now?
Yup
Check the comments.
While fortunately not drastic, still no reason to get excited about raising prices
not only that, but also suddenly hundreds of games and DLC just disappeared from various regional stores and can't be bought there anymore until devs update prices, and we all know a lot of them won't bother, so this change effectively removed lots and lots of games and DLC from sale

Got to say, BG3 has kind of rekindled my interest in CRPG’s. Thinking I may go back to the original sin games or Pathfinder.

And I am really looking forward to Owlcats Rogue Trader (I love the 40K setting but also realise it is an acquired taste). But it would be great if somebody could do a Starfinder or a a New Shadowrun/Cyberpunk Red.

hell even something along the lines of the Call of Cthulhu TRPG would be great.
I'm still holding out hope that Harebrained Schemes is secretly working on a World of Darkness CRPG.

If the concern is over transaction costs can't they just force a minimum payment with any additional payment going to the Steam wallet?
that would be a better choice than just nuking hundreds (if not thousands) of games and DLC from all the poor regions

I just can't get hyped for Starfield :(

BETHESDA + Space game with no aliens?
tbh the fact its "Early Space exploration" instead of "galaxy wide society wher humanity is still somehow on top" makes it much more interesting to me .... casue its not that usual of a setting thx to ... well you guessed it ... people want to bang blue aliens

It would probabile be seen as unfair because It would tie the user on their platform one way or another
But again im not a lawyer so its just an ignorant assumption

The difference between the steam banner art and trailer thumbnail art is amusing.
I could be off base, but the YouTube thumbnail looks AI generated. It has that generic anime look associated with AI art and the fingers are kind of funky.

So why is the Steam pre-load for Starfield only a day before release, yet Xbox gets it weeks before?

I can think of two reasons:

  • Microsoft believes Steam's encryption isn't safe enough
  • Microsoft wants us to buy the game in their own store instead of Steam

I assume the latter, since I believe that Microsoft using Steam is only temporary to get PC gamers into their franchises.

Probably just means the early review version will be the console version for outlets. Steam preload is still kinda early if you don't count the premium edition access.
