The hardest part of dealing with mihoyo games, especially if you have adhd or adhd-like symptoms, is their writing style. They will make you mash through 50+ lines of the driest most mundane dialogue quite often and their lore books are like 5 pages long with the amount of scrolling down you do on them. Even the voiced dialogue parts are hard to pay attention to because they often don't say anything interesting and I find myself setting it to auto play and looking over at my PC while they yammer on about tax forms or some dull shit like that.

Last night in the new star rail area I turned in a side quest and while I didn't count I swear I had to mash through almost 100 lines of dialogue. It went on FOREVER while I was trying to just finish that last thing before going to bed.

edit: The timing on this couldn't be any better. I started the new event in genshin and I'm currently sitting through a 5+ minute voiced scene about...making kites. I'm going to go insane.

Has anyone ever seen a mouse that supports rumble? I suppose it's counter-intuitive to accuracy if the rumble vibrates your laser even a single mm, but still, I was just thinking to myself how neat this would be.
Logitech Ifeel. I used to own one. The mouse sucked and it was poorly supported by games. Still playing Black and White was quite an experience. You could feel the fishes biting on your fingers through the mouse.

I've had a thought rolling around in my head after playing some demos in the nextfest and I have a question for you guys. Specifically for folks who enjoy Boomer Shooters like Prodeus or Boltgun, but I suppose it can extend to anyone who enjoys games with retro visuals like Eastward for example.

So the question is, do you actually enjoy or even prefer the oldschool, low fidelity visuals that these games offer? Or is it a case of you accepting or even tolerating the visuals knowing that the games were made by smaller teams with limited budgets and the simple fact that nobody else is going to make a high budget game of this kind anymore? Since these games are at least partially appealing to nostalgia, do those retro visuals actually add to the appeal of the game? Or maybe it's a case of 'gameplay is king' and you don't care how a game looks as long as it's fun to play?

Conversely, are you the kind of person who cannot get themselves to play a game that looks 25 years old even if someone told you it's really good? There's nothing wrong with that btw. Visuals are big part of the appeal of this medium.

I'll be back later to try and explain the thought process going on in my head when asking this question. For now I'd like to hear your thoughts if possible...

I like the boomer shooters and other retro style games. For me, I don't really care much about the "quality" of the graphics -- even ray tracing or stuff like that. It's all about art style. If it has a great, coherent style, that is #1. Whether it's implemented with voxels, pixels, or whatever, that's cool. Nostalgia doesn't play into it at all.

For example, consider Battlebit. I thought it looked like ass in screenshots, but I bought it due to all the great reviews about its gameplay. Its look has grown on me, and I don't mind the blocky graphics. I'd rather play that than Battlefield 2042, which focuses on graphics over gameplay.

I need to play a few games in my backlog, like Cruelty Squad or Golden Light. That will be the true test of gameplay vs graphics!

I've been replaying OG Doom and Doom 2 on Deck this past month. And the games are still so amazing. If the controls, pacing and movement are good I usually love the genre. I don't really mind old retro visuals. If its fun its fun.

I played Prodeus on Gamepass a while back and didn't enjoy it that much. Something felt off about the game. Same with the old Duke Nukem game. Something about the movement, level design and pacing throws me off.

So yea its hit hit n miss with that genre but I mostly love them. I don't think visuals have ever been a reason I stopped playing an old looking game. I've never been a graphics oriented person. No matter how great/realistic a game looks the look will wear off after playing 30 minutes. The wow factor goes away quick and the game has to be carried by everything else. For me the gameplay, controls and performance are much more important.

Predictions.

How many copies of Stella Blade will be sold? At minimum (unless the game truly sucked) wouldn't it be something like 2 million copies? Or I guess maybe something that's at least more than 1 million copies

Seeing how Sony backed games do sell more than that.

I doubt it will do over 4 million, but crazier things have happened.

I love the visual spectacle in games like Cyberpunk and it certainly is a part of why i enjoy them and if i had the choice for a game i'd almost always pick the "better" modern graphics.

On the other hand i loved this little gem:

I think for me it comes down to "What am i playing the game for?". For boomer shooters, they're usually really fast paced (the good ones anyway) and being able to quickly read the screen becomes way more important than graphics.

I think some people agree with you
You know dumbass Sony is looking at these numbers and instead of thinking about the great success that a day-and-date PC release would bring to their games, they're probably thinking "Oh golly, them PC gamers really loooove them live services games, here: have 30 more live service games, brotha (y)Also, fuck bloodborne lmao."

Watching some PC ass streamer these days, so big city builders, management, simulation mood. This fucking guy will make me play Soviet Republic if he doesn't stop gushing about it. I'm scared, though :anguished-face:

Well, anyway, all that to say they fucking made me install Frostpunk. I loathe the whole misery porn of it, but it SO well regarded.

Against my better judgement, I started Persona 3 Reload and have already played it 25 hours. I remember playing the original Persona 3 shortly after finishing P5 back in 2017 and not being too impressed with it.

While my memory is hazy, Reload does add a lot of things to Tartarus that makes the dungeon crawling more interesting and less monotonous. It's still not as good as the handmade dungeons in Persona 5, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

One thing I've noticed is that the pacing is very fast compared to Persona 5. I'm in the middle of July whereas 25 hours in Persona 3 would get me to around early June. Persona 5 spends a lot of time trying to explain its universe (and repeatedly shoves information down your throat) while Persona 3 wants you to accept the rules of its world without going into great detail. The main cast is likable, but the side characters range from boring to downright obnoxious.

tl;dr: good game, but not as good as Persona 5.

The most important one to get!
No emotion this year? Well that sucks. I guess we won't be able to get all 12 of them now.

In other news God Eater 3 was in the top ten selling games on Steam in Japan region. GE1 and 2 are region locked in Japan so you can't buy them there.

I'm looking at the Steam Discussion board for Helldiver's 2 and I find it funny how it's actually organized and has categories and stuff.

Millennia, the Paradox Civ-clone, is good. It may or may not be differentiating itself but on first glance, it looks like a Civ, walks like a Civ, etc.
It's just, well, it's Paradox. So expect the mother of all over monetization.

It scratched and itch. Maybe play Civ VI for the first time ? Buy Humankind, but it's pretty globally hated ? Buy Old World but its IA is famously ruthless ? Give a second chance to Endless series ?
So many choices.

So the biggest PS Studios PC release so far is Steam only.

Timmy be fuming.

I mean, Timmy must constantly be fuming. Palworld, Lethal Company, Helldivers 2, Yakuza Wealth, Persona 3 R etc.

As much as i enjoy story and atmosphere in CP2077/Phantom Liberty even with 2.0 revamp game has fundamental issues. Game is designed for you to go and shoot people, hacking and stealth are kinda secondary. That is obvious from level design and gameplay. Also i love how atmospheric and good looking Night City is but it is underused. All of that verticality is basically wasted. And as much as this is strange to hear they really should take a notes from Watch_Dogs 2 regarding Netrunner build. That is how i am imagining Netrunner.

CP2077 looks like a great game but everytime I play it I feel extremely overwhelmed to the point I start to feel actually anxious lol

Eh there is nothing to be overwhelmed with. Half of the things in that game is still useless and basically can be ignored (like crafting). Just go and play it and if you want engage with some systems. CDPR obviously had much bigger plans for this game but they cut things a lot.
