So uh, since I'm going through my first (1.5th? I played a bit pre 2.0 then bounced) of Cyberpunk 2077, I need to ask

Phantom Liberty, I know it has a new ending in it - Is Phantom Liberty's content a whole other "Route" of the game that breaks off into its own endgame, or does it converge-back into the main game's route and add on to it?

Just want to make sure that I'm not "missing out" on a chunk of the Vanilla game by playing through PL's quests when I get around to that. Since, like, the PL Quest in the questlog has an ominous "Get your affairs in order" message on its description.

I didn't expect any different but still bummed out by the lack of ultrawide support for Rebirth. At least they bothered to implement DLSS this time, I guess...
The fact that S-E is apparently proud enough to market a port which doesn't have arbitrary aspect ratio support (or at the very least, 21:9) is just sad. A publisher of that size for a game of that reach has absolutely no excuse.

Nah, you're good. Playing the PL questline to its conclusion doesn't end the game. You still need to finish the base game's story to get the new ending.

Ubisoft is done man
I hope they can find a way to separate the games fron their launcher as a final sendoff so whoever ends up owning the ips can still profit from and sell them on Steam instead of making their entire catalogue unplayable forever

For a second I thought about buying some Ubisoft shares to see if I could get a decent profit off the Premium from a full-buyout but

Then I took one glance at their share value and collapsed into laughter. They're fucking skirting Delisting right now.

Yeah don't buy Video Game related stocks.

Their trailer got a good laugh out of me when they proudly listed PC features such as : mouse and keyboard support and not 1, not 2, but 3 graphical presets.

It's such a joke. They're advertising how terrible their port is as a feature. It will probably sell well and I'm part of the problem.

Im not opposed to AC Shadows getting more time to cook, I am still looking forward to it!
Yeah me too, this game seems like the last hail Mary from the company. And I know is easy to shit on Ubisoft, but I genuinely believe that their developers are crazy talented and hopefully they finally deliver a good video game.

At this point into 3d rendering you need Alex Battaglia in every game to see the differences lmao. All 3 look great to me.

I can live with a barebones port, as long as it works. But it's equal parts baffling and hilarious to me that S-E can't seem to figure out 21:9 support for the latest release in their flagship franchise. Meanwhile, I've been playing Yakuza 5 Remastered, a port of what was originally a PS3-only game, and that somehow has decent ultrawide support out of the box lol.

I know there's likely going to be a mod for Rebirth pretty quickly and I'll definitely use it. But that usually means when you open up a menu, you still see the game being rendered on the sides of the screen and that always bugs me. It's a minor thing, though.

So decided to sit down and try and determine my GOTY for last year. Problem is, I can't.

So looking back at all the stuff I played last year and there wasn't a single thing I played (that was released last year) that I could see as being worthy of that nomination. The main things I played that where new where:-

Space Marine 2, fun for a while but got bored of the base game. I like my 40K tactical & strategic, roll on Mechanicum 2.

Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, very fun game but still in early access and being developed.

Helldivers 2, at time of release I would have given it game of the year. But with all the messing around with nerfs, the devs actively trying their best to make the game actually less fun to play and then fucking over parts of the world with PSN bullshit. Yeah the luster fell off that one quickly, meant to be back to it's former glory but just not felt the urge to go back to it.

Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail. I enjoyed my time with the MSQ, the post patch content has been good if you are more a hardcore raider but not a great deal to do endgame at the moment. Plus not matter how I look at it, it's a bit of a let down after the heights of Shadowbringers and Endwalker.

Logiart Grimoire is probably the closest I have come to giving a game GOTY. It is all of the Picross goodness you can want from the same developers as the switch version. Except they have over complicated it a bit. All I want from a picross game is the puzzles.

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown. Another major contender, up until the point I didn't actually finish it. Great game, but something about it just couldn't get me to the end.

Path of Exile 2. Been a great game so far, lots of fun. But still in development and probably nowhere near it's final form.

The First Descendant, lots of fun to play. But F2P shenanigans, the grind if you don't want to spend and the somewhat horny nature of the game (the amount of bare arses on the screen every time I load in to the main hub, not sure how my graphics card handles it) takes the edge of it.

Instead I find myself wanting to give it to Stardew Valley, The Calamity Mod for Terraria, Tetris Effect. All games I enjoyed far more than last years releases and all games that came out far earlier than last year.

However this year has Citizen Sleeper 2 early on, so hopefully a lot easier to find a game of the year for it.

Managed to get FF16 demo running at a respectable state. :cuteblob: FSR performance + 30->60fps through Lossless Scaling performance mode. Honestly the game doesn't look bad at all even with the two performance modes on. Apparently the constant stutter I posted before was a product of MSI Afterburner. Turn it off and the stutter is gone.

Now wait for the update on LS today to reduce ghosting and improve latency. Can't wait.

This shot makes me watch the video. I honestly can't find many differences other than the mountain in the distance and the fur of Red XIII.

I don't know if this is worth a separate thread, but I can make one if required, but I was wondering if it would be interesting to guess what the peak CCU would be for the notable (imo) games coming out this month (and then one for next month as well). Thoughts?
  1. Dynasty Warriors Origins
  2. Blade Chimera
  3. Assetto Corsa EVO (early access)
  4. Tales of Graces f Remastered
  5. Ender Magnolia (leaving early access)
  6. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
  7. Star Wars Ep 1 Jedi Power Battles
  8. Synduality
  9. Tails of Iron II
  10. Virtua Fighter 5 REVO
  11. Hello Kitty Island Adventure
  12. Spider-Man 2
  13. Citizen Sleeper 2

Safe prediction for Rebirth and Spider-Man 2 would be similar numbers to the first entries.

So Remake was 13k so I guess you can round it up this time since its bigger and the price/reviews were better. So lets say 20k for Rebirth.

Spider-Man was 66k so I would round down to 60k for the sequel.

Hard to tell if these games have a new audience this time around. I don't recall Sony or Square bragging about the numbers for these games when they were PS5 only launches either. So who knows.

I expect Rebirth to do more than 20k, despite the port. Remake was held back by Sony exclusivity and EGS exclusivity, while Rebirth is only affected by one of those.
But it's a direct story sequel to a slightly unpopular (on PC) game, there's almost always a drop-off in this case, since a) people don't finish games and don't necessarily start the next one before wrapping up the first and b) people get turned off by the first game not being to their liking.
FF7R got 13k CCU, I can't see FF7R2 beating that 2x...
(Unless you're talking total launch sales... Hats off in this case, you're even more pessimistic than this old, weary Slav)

Bamco totally misses the timing to release this one. It should have been released right after the anime, and the anime wasn't too popular either. But it is not a full-priced game so some people may pick it up for fun. Sub 18k would be my guess.

That's a good point, and you might be right. But for some reason I still have the gut feeling that it will do more than 20k (CCU).

I feel like the discount, release before the ton of Feb games, closer to console launch, and twin pack bundle offer (in a small way) will help it do better than Remake's launch but not by much.

Just finished the Titan boss fight in FFXVI, that has to be one of the most spectacular bosses in gaming history lmao

We probably should assume that a lot more folks picked up FF7R since its debut on PC in discounts etc and played it leading into Rebirth doing better than expected. Maybe the award stuff also helped, but yea I expect similar numbers to remake.

I tried the first beta of that one last year, I found it to be pretty dull, pretty much just dropping into a generic open zone with a time limit (the robot's battery, like 15~20 mins or so), the goal is primarily collecting crystals (though there's pvpve elements) and make it to one of the exit points before the battery ends.
The loop of trying to get materials for new equipment only to lose that equipment on death just wasn't fun for me.

Dunno if the 2nd test improved things, I couldn't be bothered to give it a try again.

It kinda felt like an aimless Helldivers 2 (without the main objective and optional objectives), with slower movement, shorter time limit, with pvp elements, and with the possibility of having several players on the same map, but with each player doing their own thing.

Oh god we're having a Retard Era moment. :surrenderblob:

Because it takes away creative freedom/agency for the sake of ticking arbitrary boxes?

Nobody likes "forced" anything where it isn't necessary. It often results in underbaked and ingenuine nonsense, that just leads to even more problems. See: current politics. Lefties biggest complaint? How ingenuine """""allies""""" often feel/become/reveal themselves to be.

How many more "milkshake ducks" until people wake the fuck up?

If you are making a character/story and your first and most important intention is not simply to make it good but rather to tick a box? It will show and it will fall flat. This has been proven over and over and over, and all anyone wants to do is circle the drain and point fingers at sides.

The VAST majority of people/consumers will not actually care about any of this shit as long as the game is good. Anyone else is simply an annoyingly vocal minority. And that also goes for both "sides."

See: The amount of people who complained about CDP Red/Cyberpunk's depiction of trans, but still bought and played it anyway. Or Hogwarts massive success. Or NieR/Stellar Blade selling gangbusters despite """""problematic""""" depictions of Women.

Also bookmark this post for when Witcher 4 comes out and sells millions with tons of fanfare and positive reviews, despite the complaints against Ciri right now.
Because including minorities is "ticking a box", but making more harem waifu garbage for weebs is just making it "good", not ticking the box to target brainwashed retards.
Freedom for me, not for thee.
Can't make Dustborn, it's not creative freedom! Making Stellar Blade, now that's not forced at all.

So I'm still playing Wuthering Waves, this gacha game has me somewhat surprised in how much I'm liking it at the moment.

Might talk more about it later when I get up to speed with content in 2.0.
I started this game for Carlotta and she’s super fun to play. Favourite unit in the game, she’s also voiced by Kana Ueda in JP and Jennifer Engish in EN.

KEK. You again. Idk man, Said what I said. :shrugblob:

Not gonna waste my time arguing Idealism Vs. Reality. Compare the sales of the two games you just listed though? Make as many Dustborns as you want, The people who champion such games rarely show up to support them. So don't cry when your studio is shuttered, laid off, or struggles to make R.O.I. because it's a shit game even before you consider it's story/writing.

But hey, whatever makes you happy brother. Just don't start fetish projecting again with all the butt and feet kissing. Spare me.

This is really not the level of discourse I want to see here.

For what it's worth, I have no idea regarding the actual quality of Dustborn at all -- in fact, I have no idea what it is -- I have a pretty good indication that Stellar Blade is nothing to write home about either, since I trust The Electric Underground regarding core gameplay takes, but that's completely besides the point too.

I'm not even fundamentally opposed to the argument that huge publishers coming up with formalized schemes to rate and "optimize" the diversity of their character rosters is probably not what we want.

However, the actual issue here is the unnecessarily aggressive stance and personal attacks. Stop that please.

There is a very important thing to realize when talking about this industry: we as customers are responsible for both games failures and successes, there are no buts or ifs here
I didn't buy Dustborn, I'm not interested in that game and I really don't bother with discussing games I don't own (or plan to own), but here's the thing: the only difference between me and a random racist on twitter is that I don't spend my free time harrassing or mocking the developer. Maybe this gives me a "higher moral standing", but it doesn't change the fact I "helped" with that game failure just as them
Same for SW Outlaws, or Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, or Unknown 9 Awakening, or Concord. I didn't pick these titles at random, these are all games that were attacked by grifters/racists/chuds or whatever word you want to use to talk about them. These are also games I didn't buy or play in any way so far, and all of their developers suffered layoffs (or are close to suffering them). So those job losses are my responsibility too
But what can I do? Money doesn't grow on trees, and even if it did there is always going to be another game that interests me more. So it's impossible to "support" every game I want regardless of how many come out each month (if not week). It's an unsolvable issue: devs are free to make what they want, publishers are free to make what they think will make the most money, but in the end customers are also free to decide to spend their money elsewhere
Those games didn't fail because of the harrassment, those games failed because they had no market. I don't know if this thread is the place for it, but I think there is an interesting discussion to be had about the topic, or about which type of customer is more likely to spend money, or if the political climate means a game is more likely to fail if the protagonist has a certain skin color or a certain gender, but in the end it all goes back to money and how finite it is

AstralShift, the developers of Little Goody Two Shoes & Pocket Mirror ~ GoldenerTraum, announced a new game - Hell Maiden. No platforms or a release window has been revealed yet, but it's described to be inspired by Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy.
