That's not the case with Dontnod though. The game is currently in development and won't be out for a while, they didn't take money from anyone (at least on the customers side). They clearly stated that they're going with Epic because they need money and Epic evidently gave them a better deal compared to the one Bamco originally offered.
As much as I'm annoyed about the game not releasing on every platform at the same time and I won't be purchasing it on the EGS, they didn't screw over anyone, they didn't took money from pre-orders, didn't run a crowdfunding campaign, didn't create a Steam page and didn't even say when and how the game was going to be made available to the public.
Very different from stuff like Shenmue or Metro/Anno or other games that used Steam for marketing.
I'm not a fan of EGS like everyone else here, and I have to admit that this is probably the
best way to sign with EGS.
I'm still mad at Industries of Titan for being on my Steam wishlist for years. And so there it will stay.
Epic has the money to pay for exclusivity deals, but none to pay their competitive Fortnite players in a timely manner.
I'm black, and even I'll say that Fortnite, from the developers on crunch to the E-sports sector, strikes me as a 21st century slave cash crop.
The South arguably never recovered from the cotton gin though (and of copious racism). I wonder how long they'll be able to ride the Fortnite coattails. Hell, in 2018, weren't we talking about PUBG as the new hotness?
God forbid Valve from doing this. That would feed PCGamer and Era trolls for weeks.
It would be a violation of their fundamental ethos. GabeN created Steam as a response to piracy, stating that piracy is a "service problem." Meaning, if consumers are given more options to purchase, they will be less likely to download/steal games.
Exclusivity is contrary to the mission of Steam.
I'm starting to think being a dipshit is part of the EGS exclusivity contracts.
So, as expected, indie publisher Raw Fury has an EGS exclusive title.
Here is how they are reacting to negative feedback:
This is VERY disappointing. I'm a fan of Raw Fury's output: Bad North, Dandara.
And their cheekiness about it, too. Seems like signing on to EGS makes lots of indies kinda toxic. I think another dev was lashing out like that, too.
MN9 should have taught us all a lesson. However, Shenmue III teaches us a newer one about greed.
When I wrote that post, I completely blanked on Barkley 2.
Add that to the list.
OFC there are many, many games that get funded. Many that don't. But these are high profile games. Shenmue III wasn't even supposed to ever happen.
So there are many, MANY eyes on this,
