What do we think the reviews for The Sinking City are going to be like? I’m thinking low 6s.
Around 67, reviews are never nice with this sort of games. Like with the vast majority of similar titles, most people will never know it even exists and among those who do know, most will hate it and a particular niche will really like it.

Usual Frogwares fare, low 70s to mid 60s range. The game has absolutely bizarre system requirements (4gb gpu min) and it's most likely points out to shitty optimization, so, they're lucky customers have no way to express their dissatisfaction in any meaningful way on EGS.

depends how it compares to their previous games ... and to the other Cthulhu one that was released last year

but if i had to guess i'd say this one will be better than Call of Cthulhu ... which had kinda bad reviews
Yeah I’m kinda hopeful. The combat in the last gameplay video looked much better than the earlier previews

yeah, pretty much ... i was seriously excited for that game (as i REALLY like their Sherlock games) ... and then they went exclusive, lol :p

i'm still going to buy it when it comes to steam ... but i'm going to hate myself for doing it, lol

Just noticed that Cyberpunk is now on EGS too. They just avoid the sales aren't they?
i think it's been there since like 2 days after MS conf

but yeah, they're probably waiting for the sale to end (or has it ended already? i wouldn't know - i don't ever go there, lol)

It went up on EGS alongside GOG and Steam but didnt go up for preorder until the sale was over.

I'm typically wrong, but I've always felt mobile would be the biggest share.
Fortnite on mobile is complete garbage and requires a fairly powerful phone to run acceptably. It's no surprise it's not going so hot.
Contrast that with PUBG mobile which can be played at full speed on basically every 100$ phone these days, even in some phones in the 70-80$ price point.

I think the bolden part is why Epic doesn't bother with cross-promotions between Fortnite and the EGS.
My guess is that they don't want to have items that only PC players can get since console players probably wouldn't get the same cross promotion opportunity.

Too bad for Epic, I'm sure the cross promotion that Valve did with Team Fortress 2 over the years helped sell a few extra copies of games.

I hate to say it but part of the reason I bought Brink was because it came with a cool Sniper hat. I never got around to playing Brink and it died really quickly so I basically paid $50 for that hat.

Fortnite gets a boost from Season 9 but is still far off from its peak. Fortnite made $203 million across console, PC and mobile, up significantly from April but down 38% from May 2018. Console continues to contribute the largest share of players and revenue.
The bold part is interesting. The slow declining in revenue over months could be an explanation to why Epic agressivly trying to get their piece of Steam's storefront cake.

It's clear they were looking for the fastest way to break into the digital distribution market. I think Epic probably thinks that Fortnite's success won't last forever so they're looking for a more stable business revenue wise and it doesn't get more stable than PC digital distribution. They're in a hurry becahse if the Fortnite gravy train gets derailed they're screwed.

It looks like they did actually manage their 1 June goal (search by genre and tag). So you can now search "action" or "RPG" and get games associated with that.
Though it looks like it's nowhere shown which genres/tags a game has or even exist, lol. Typical.

Their goals for July look pretty ambitious so I expect nearly everything to be delayed again.

Im not gonna bash fortnite. I like UE4 and the improvements they made to the engine because of Fortnite helped a lot of games I love like Deep Rock Galactic and Tower Unite.

Like how the engine didnt properly support multiplayer games with more than 16 players before Fortnite, so they had to rework a large part of the engine to fix it, Which as an effect made games I love like Tower Unite which have 64 player lobbies a lot more stable. It was a fucking NIGHTMARE before this overhaul.

Sure, but Unreal Engine isn't as ubiquitous as last gen, plus Epic has a lot of competition in that field from Unity. The time of every big game being Unreal Engine is long past.

Unity is trying to move into the high end AAA market more, but Unreal still have that pretty much on lock.
I mean, they might not be a MegaCorp forever if FortNite money dries up, but they'll always have the Unreal engine to fall back on as long as the graphical arms race continues, and I guarantee you the first "THIS IS WHAT NEXT GEN WILL LOOK LIKE!" puff-pieces are going to be Unreal 5(?) tech demos.

Its like Brad Wardell and StarDock; you can hate them all you want, but as long as Windows UI design is ass, they're always going to have Windowsblinds money to fall back on.

I agree. My focus is exactly on their megacorp status. Unreal Engine will not be enough for Epic to sustain its current moneyhat strategy, so if Fortnite declines we will be free of their bullshit.

When will people finally learn that keys are free, and anyway I kinda don't think Valve charges per launch :D


I don't usually like when megacorps pretend to be nice and funny human beings, but I'd totally love to see Valve's social media manager starting to reply with trolling tweets to this kind of awkward attacks disguised by good sense.

It is a matter of interpretation of the policy. So far, we have all believed that backers of crowdfunded games could be given a special treatment, that is get a Steam key prior to the Steam release. It seems that this exception is only for beta testing of crowdfunded games.

This week is already looking good for Epic, but things could turn even worse it will be if Epic / Deep Silver don't start refunding Shenmue 3 backers or simply go another week without saying nothing other than Tim tweets.
