The book club thread is up. I hope you'll consider joining in, if you already own 428: Shibuya Scramble:

I bought this game back a few years ago when it was like 20 bucks with the plan of borrowing a friends ps3. It never happened. This is going to be awesome.

niiiice ... well, good luck then ... and have fun! :D

Finished Banner Saga 2. I really like this series. I'm a sucker for srpg's and games that force you to make hard choices that actually have consequences. Also love the aspect of managing the caravan and the art is gorgeous.

Also finished Resonance of Fate, enjoyed it even more than the first time all those years ago, probably because I was already familiar with the battle system, not to mention that jrpg's with this kind of presentation are a rare breed nowadays.
It's a shame that some details of the story aren't explained, forcing you to search the internet for answers, the game went a bit too far with it's minimalistic approach for the story.
The cast remains one of the best in the genre though.

Shame my PC isn't capable of running PCSX3. Fortunately I played every PS3 game I wanted to play but playing DS at 60fps/4k must be special indeed.

I'm still in inner conflict on whether to get the Monthly for StS or not.
I really like card games but I really don't like roguelikes, so I'm a bit torn, lol.
On the other hand it has a Nier Automata mod, sooooo... :face-with-cold-sweat:
Not sure what kind of card games you usually go for, it's arguably comparable to physical ones like Legendary or Xenoshyft, which are themselves very roguelike board games really (bunch of random variables each game, adapt to try and win, but you can't always make it). I played a couple runs of the custom mode since my post and it's about a billion times better than the "normal" way to play. You can make it harder, but mostly just doing the draft or sealed deck start cuts out so much of the RNG of the first floor and makes it more decision based. I still think Neoverse might actually be balanced better for interesting decisions, StS seems to have a pretty narrow line between "super powered unbeatable deck" and "you lose now", but there's fun to be had.

Background: Community - MetaSteam | July 2019 - Racing Towards Empty Wallets

Finally got around to install Windows 10 on one of the HDDs I had lying around and guess what, the old games that crashed the Insider build on my main drive work with this non-Insider Windows 10.

On the one hand, I'm glad it was quite easy to fix this (even though I still have to tweak that dual boot stuff). But it's still kinda infuriating that a new Windows build makes some older games unplayable. Also, it seems that this is not the case for everyone who opted in for the Insider program (it actually seems like I'm the only one lol). Not sure what's borked with my main Windows 10 and I don't feel like looking into it.

:ripblob:

I'm sure i read something about Microsoft removing an old component from Windows 10 that would have an impact on old games. I know they are shutting down the servers for the Windows 7 Online component that games like Othello used but there was something else i saw recently. I'm sure of it.

Time for a quick look about...

edit: I can't find anything so far... maybe it was a dream?

With a couple fan patches and a few subtle mods like the SHTUP textures the game's already as modern as one could want it (without using other mods like the character upgrade project that completely misses the mark in terms of atmosphere, SHTUP is super faithful) so I wonder what they can do to make this a worthwhile purchase. Would they actually bother/risk rebalancing the classes and everything to make the notoriously useless psionic abilities better?
Psi is not useless, in fact my last playthrough was Melee/Psi. And while mods can make Shock 2 look better, I really want a modern UI designed for UI scaling instead of the tiny text we have now.

I was unaware of this, but developer Richard Hofmeier, who released a well received game a few years ago (Cart Life), has released his newest game, Type Dreams, on itch.io:

We need a thread about itch.io releases, to document the smaller games that may not make it to other platforms any time soon. :)

I have made it through the tutorial in Guilty Gear Xrd \o/
Though I suspect I've already forgotten have of it again, lol :dizzy-face:
Guess the next step is trying some characters out with the challenges, and button mash myself to victory in Arcade mode. I just want to the story movie :P

Also went through chapter 2 of Dangitgranpa. Still fun. I watched the anime years ago so there are bits and pieces I still remember or recall once I reach certain points in the game, but hasn't hampered my enjoyment so far, I think.

Well, I no longer feel bad for putting off playing this game for all those years lol. I really should get around to playing the Enhanced Edition of the first one before this comes out, though. Especially now that they've done a source port and added achievements. Hopefully they're doing the same with SS2.

I have been watching a lets play for Minecraft and until SE announces the PC version of DQB2 I think I might pick up Minecraft Java Edition at some point (it's tempting). Also I learned today that the game cost about $30USD, I thought it cost $20USD.

Also so far FE 3H is a 8/10 for me. It's good but does have some issues/inconveniences.

The real starting point is the Infinity Series! (Never 7, Ever 17 Remember 11)
Ever 17 is my favorite VN
I do hope you keep an eye out for Dei Gratia no Rashinban which is getting translated at the moment then. It's indie homage to Ever 17 and I can recommend it as a hidden gem without second thought.

Final stage of adjustments for SaGa 3, more news at TGS. Don't forget it's coming to PC as well. They're also aiming to keep it as close to the original as possible.

==========

For VN Fans, MangaGamer did an interview with NoisyPixel here: MangaGamer Interview - A Growing Market in the West - Noisy Pixel

Plenty of interesting tidbits inside.

AL: When it comes to releasing games on Steam, do you feel your games have fair visibility on the platform?

JP:
With Steam, if you’re an adult game, you can’t be seen unless the user sets their options to view that content. Adult games already lose a bit of visibility that way. However, if you’re an all-ages game, it is possible to be seen by everyone and host your adult content as DLC. We’ve noticed that a lot of people end up getting this because, at the end of the day, people want their porn.

The switch lite is 6000 MXN, or $300 USD. Damn.

I really want the Turquoise one, but given how common joycon stick drift is I really wanna wait for a while to see if users complain about control issues. At least with a regular Switch you can just get new joycons right? But if they go bad on the lite, you're kinda screwed? :face-with-cold-sweat:

I think Nintendo has at least said that they will fix controllers with that issue (I would assume the same would apply to the N/S Lite?)

This is what I have been saying for some time, people want eroges and it does sell. (I can't wait for Valve to mention what the top sellers for July/August are since the Custom Order Maid game is likely one of those top sellers )

Yes, they repair them for free IIRC

I already have a perfectly functioning Switch and I still want this shit :c

Welp, got my first problem buying from CDKeys. I figured Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection for 11 bucks was too good to be true. Store page said worldwide but I'm getting an "unavailable in your region" error when I try to activate. I sent in a support ticket but am I likely fucked here? No idea how reliable they are when it comes to issues like this.

I had a similar region problem with them before -- I sent a salty email, and they refunded me and gave me a bunch of store credit. A++++ would buy again.

If only those eroges features more adult-looking characters instead of lolis...

I probably won't say no to more Alicesoft releases though.

Finished Metro Exodus finally. The last couple of hours was weird, it was like they remembered why people liked the series and decided to do an almost carbon copy of some parts of the first 2 games both visually and even bringing some enemy types back.

Ultimately it was a pretty flawed game full of conflicting design concepts, bugs, and a focus on immersion over fun. The day time in most maps looked really impressive and yet I got to see very little of it because in order to play stealthy at all you're forced to play at night. Enemies can see you from crazy distances in day time, which is logical, but logic doesn't always translate to a good time in a game. Also if you want the good ending you will have to play it that way, stealthy and mostly at night, because in several areas you will get penalized for killing the enemies. I did end up getting the good ending but I don't think it was worth it since I had to go around knocking guys out for half the game. Not the most ideal way to play a FPS.

I think you can still activate key under VPN.

Last week someone tried to trade me a Megaman Collection key and had the same issue. The weird part is that I know the game has no real region lock so it had to be a russian key, which are usually separate from the rest of the world. Being another Capcom game thats what most likely happened in your case.

Getting the good ending in the previous two games was a PITA. You missed a dialogue? Bad ending.

Wow just how big is this Kagura company? Since it seems that they at least helped localize that Says no Uta game in Chinese (according to the Steam page). I think it's them and Sakura games that I have uneasy feeling twords, especially with their "contests"

Do it! It's one of the best games ever made! Sure I might sound hyperbolic but what I mean by it is that it's one of the games that is best at being a game. The experiences and feelings in Minecraft just can't be had in any other medium.

As announced during ax2019 JAST is now in a partnership witt Kagura Games to release titles faster.
They are also on other stores like MG and JAST.
Sakuragames are the hacks shoving MTL’d stuff out on Steam and selling said MTL’d garbage for a pittance, and doing all the other weird stuff.

Dishonored is such an incredible game, I've replayed it a few months ago as well. The character models look dated, but the environments are still looking good imo. I really love the art style! Your screenshots are way too bright by the way, the game is supposed to look rather dark.

Be sure to play the DLC as well, it's great!
