New Valve VR patent application

DISPLAY BACKLIGHT WITH LIGHT EXPANDER STRUCTURES

Abstract
Methods and systems relating generally to information displays, and more particularly to systems and methods for backlight assemblies for information displays that include light expanding structures. A backlight assembly may include light expander structures that include a plurality of layer sets, wherein each layer set includes a reflective polarizer layer and a wave retarder layer. The layer sets may together be operative transform point light source, such as a laser light beam, into a surface light source for use as a backlight for various types of information displays.
Whatever that means.

Guess backlight implies "not oled" though?

The GTAV singleplayer was very boring and the story/characters poorly written. I didn't enjoy it at all. In my near 40hrs with the game the only thing I enjoyed was riding around jet ski in the ocean and a few of the street races because car handling really is well done. Everything else was boring.

If you want to play a good Rockstar game play RDR2. The amount of love they put into the story, characters and writing in that game is like 1000x more than GTAV. Even with sluggish gameplay...the experience was still so much more entertaining, realistic and immersive. A true masterpiece that shows how talented R* can be in the AAA space.

Ouch at that PS5 price increase.

although looking at the way things are going I am glad I sorted my PC out recently.
This type of increase just warrants waiting for the slim version in a couple years. No way anyone should be paying this stupid tax on top of the 70$ games. Whatever RnD + parts they put forth will be cheaper than the current large box they are making. And regardless they are making profit with it but still raising price like this after years is complete bs.

lol increasing the PS5 price in the midst of a cost of living crisis whilst you're a company making record profits
I am curious about some of that.

From what I heard (not sure how accurate it is).

But because of the drop of the Yen, a PS5 cost like 370USD there and because of that you have people buying it and then reselling it in China and overseas, which has left fewer and fewer system actually available to purchase for people even though some stores have a lottery system for who gets chosen. I'm not sure if they are still really doing those.

This has upset a lot of Japanese players and has lead to the whole Sony doesn't really care about Japan thing which has been going on for a while now.

This price increase in my mind confirms there won’t be a pro or slim model any time soon. They wouldn’t raise the price if they were planning to build a cheaper system.

GTAV is a huge downgrade from GTAIV, story and writing-wise. There are so many good quotes from IV while I can hardly remember one from V.

Hey everyone,

After last week's first patch, another update is now live for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. This patch contains dozens of fixes and improvements and includes a couple of brand-new features. You may need to restart Steam to see this update.

Since we launched the game, we have seen many requests for the addition of a sharpness slider. With this update, we bring you not one, but two of them. In the Display menu you can now use a sharpness slider when NVIDIA DLSS or AMD FSR 2.0 is activated. You can finetune the sharpness for each upscaling technique to taste in ten different steps.

In the Graphics menu you will also find a Sharpness slider, that works independently from the sharpness slider for upscaling. This slider controls the in-game sharpness, like the sharpness slider that was already available in Photo Mode. When using DLSS or FSR 2.0, you can combine both sliders.

The third new feature is an option to force the aspect ratio of the game to values like 32:9 or 21:9 on any screen. This gives all players the possibility to experience Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered in ultrawide aspect ratios.

Release Notes

  • Added sharpness sliders for NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR 2.0 upscaling.
  • Added a sharpness slider that controls in-game sharpness.
  • Added an option to force the aspect ratio to 32:9, 21:9, etc.
  • Finetuned the spawn rates for Crowd and Traffic Density settings, to better reflect various modes.
  • Implemented a fix for a bug that turned objects into spiked distorted geometry.
  • Fixed white artifacts appearing around buildings while swinging trough the city.
  • Fixed various ray-tracing related crashes, including a crash that would occur when enabling ray-tracing on PCs with Intel Ivy Bridge CPUs.
  • Various visual fixes related to ray-tracing on the Very High Geometry Detail setting.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented some players from progressing in the Spider-Hack mission.
  • Fixed black blobs and sparkling pixel artifacts on characters when using Dynamic Resolution Scaling in combination with AMD Radeon GPUs.
  • Enabled Gyro Aiming on Steam Deck for Black Cat Stakeouts and interactable objects.
  • Various UI fixes for Steam Deck.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the game from launching when the installation folder contained non-Latin characters.
  • Improved field of view and cinematic blur transitions.
  • Improved error handling when Controlled Folder Access prevents the launch of the game.
  • Various visual fixes related to ultrawide aspect ratios and multi monitor setups.
  • Various fixes related to mouse and keyboard controls.
  • Stability fixes related to Dynamic Resolution Scaling in combination with AMD Radeon GPUs.
  • Various stability fixes and improved logging.

Known Issues

  • Some players using Intel GPUs cannot take a picture of the Empire State building, blocking their progression. This issue only occurs on Intel GPUs. Intel is working on a driver update to address this.

Ongoing investigations

  • Some players are reporting that some game achievements are not unlocking correctly for them. We are investigating.
  • Some players on laptops with NVIDIA GPUs are reporting significantly lower performance than what would be expected from their hardware. We are investigating this potential issue together with NVIDIA.
  • Some players are mentioning performance degradation after playing for a long amount of time. So far, we have not been able to reproduce this issue, but our investigations are ongoing, and we are analyzing data from players experiencing these issues to get a better understanding of the potential underlying problem.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance is doing really well and passed the Super Robot Wars 30 peak CCU of 17k. I might have to grab it at some point.
More than 20k already and it could still rise. Can't believe there was a time bamco gave up on Gundam in the west, but finally this dark age is over. It probably helps this game is finally being back to be translated in many languages including EFIGS for european mecha fans

Nice patch, strange they haven't managed to replicate the Raytracing degaraded performance (after a certain amount of time).
Also dex3108 will be happy for that sharpness slider.

I've got Samsung S21 with an Exynos processor. The new app is very laggy and like other mentioned the scrolling is broken. While my phone supports 120 Hz, the new Steam app feels like it's refreshing at around 20 hz. It's also funny that they said their old app looks like it was taken from 2015 because the new app doesn't feel modern either.

Also some interesting news

Sony is increasing PS5 prices in some regions :negative-blob:
Charging 750 USD in a country with a minimum wage of 8 USD a day sounds like a great idea.

Shit like this made me lose all appetite for console gaming.
