It's always strange when (some, obviously not all) people play console versions and switch to performance mode (or whatever it is called in a given game) and then are perfectly happy with their smooth experience... at 1080p with medium settings (as an example). Of course there's nothing wrong with that! But if you suggest that they could lower the settings to that same thing on PC and get the same or even better performance that's a no-go.

It seems like there's this strange psychological hangup here where it's fine for the developer to lower settings for you, but if you do it yourself that's somehow painful.

That said I think I'll be fine on my 12900k / 3090 without lowering them too much :p
I think avoiding words like "low" might help. "Normal", "Better", "Even Bettter" instead of "Low", "Normal" "Ultra" might make things a lot easier psychologically for people.

Here's the rough roadmap:

1. Finish the menus that haven't been upgraded yet. These include the graphics and layout for justice, health, diplomacy, and hauling. These aren't small tasks; each will take weeks. I'll also be working with Jacob during this period on the sprites we need to update throughout the project. He submitted the new weapons recently, for instance, and I also got a new batch of music from the composer. It's important to get these things incorporated in a timely fashion so everybody can keep working.

2. As the menus are finished, and the graphics updates are completed, we'll move on to some important interface and usability improvements (tooltips everywhere, Xs to close windows, hotkey support, etc). Some of these can be done fairly quickly, but a few are chunky additions, and there are lots of them to do. After this part is done, the game should be much easier to get into. At the same time, we'll also be continuing to add graphics (flows, the ocean and beach, some more shadows, etc.)

3. All this time, of course, we've been fixing old bugs and making new bugs and fixing them, and here we'll need to focus and spend some quality time with them, so that we have as smooth a launch as possible.

4. We're not sure what level of Steam Workshop will be needed for modding support, and it needs investigation.

5. The old ASCII version has other game modes - Adventure mode, Legends mode, and Arena mode. We've made significant progress on Legends mode, but we haven't done anything with Adventure mode and Arena mode yet. We also have the Classic ASCII mode to support, and we are also working on Mac and Linux builds.

6. There's the matter of Steam achievements and the other various Steam features. We'd like to support whatever people are into here, eventually.

When we finish the first three points, we'll have the playable fort game on Windows. The path ahead is now shorter than the path behind, and looking at the amount of graphics left to produce and the amount of menus to update, it looks like our earliest possible launch date would be in the fall. Many of the things from #5 or #6 will delay the launch significantly, and this leads to some very hard questions indeed! I know most of you want us to launch the game as soon as it is feasible, so we've been thinking about what it might look like to do some of #5 or #6 post-launch.

When the Deck pre-orders went live I couldn't risk grabbing one due to not knowing what my financial situation would be in November/December. Well it turns out it would have been great in February. Threw down a pre-order last week instead. So I may get one sometime next year...

Downunder.
VI is out. Since they're all using the same engine, diagonal movement/scrolling is still bugged.

Praying I get that Steam Deck email on Friday lol
Valve will probably send out emails in weekly batches so make sure you set up your notifications/alerts through your email/phone so you don't miss a message. I have a feeling a lot of people might not respond in the 72hr time as most don't check their emails often enough these days. I imagine many don't use steam emails as their personal important email too.

$45 for Elden Ring? Can my 1060 even handle it? Do I care if it can? Hmm.

I hope it's over soon with the least casualties possible.

No idea what the outcome may be but in the end common people like us always suffer. After2014'sneo nazi coup that brought down the elected Ukrainian government just to further western/NATO interests at the Russian borders, the whole world should have worked towards an independent Donbas and other Russian speaking territories under the condition they don't join Russia rather than pretend fascists have anything in common with western/EU values (maybe Orban's values) and deserve our support and hand Putin this handy excuse of a marginalized Ukranian Russian speaking peoples under constant threat and embargo from their own so called compatriots and Russia's financial aid the past 8 years being the one thing keeping them from becoming, like Palestinians, hostages in their own cities. I can't believe there were no real efforts for de-escalation, rather seemingly the opposite with how things went down, as if failed US/EU/UK politicians hoped for a war that would unite people against an external threat under their own leadership and banners and justify already derailed economic/energy crises to stop their downhill trajectory after severe failures in each and every field. Fuck wars, this one and all the other ongoing conflicts that have murdered and displaced thousands of people around the world all because some people are greedy and play power games on our backs and we allow it.

It was all a ruse, nothing has changed for mankind the past few centuries, greedy savages as ever.

I have about 30 hours into cyberpunk now and I feel that's enough to make a judgement on the core of the game after 1.5 came out. A lot was said how they really needed about 2 more years to have the game ready to ship but honestly I don't think much would have changed if that happened. This is still just an ok game at best, just nowhere near as buggy or poorly running as it was. But the game still has so many structural flaws that stop it from living up to the insane hype it had, like a world that's one of the flattest and static worlds I can remember. There's really not much to do in the game other than drive from mission icon to mission icon and, to be fair, the missions are pretty good and salvage the game from being complete shit.

For a sequel I'd like them to stick with night city even though that will probably be seen as a controversial or "lazy" choice by a lot of people. But to me there is so much room to make the city feel fresh despite reusing its streets and buildings. Focus most of the effort on making the city feel more alive, add more things to do on the side, add more friendly NPC hangout missions (do NOT do what GTA IV did), add more interiors to explore. The bulk of the effort for the sequel should go all into these types of things and maintaining the mission quality the first game had. Also give the NPCs some physics because in this game I run into them and my car goes through them and they just fold over like someone's first Unity engine project.

Current world order needs war because dealing with internal sh*t costs politicians more in popularity. And picking and choosing what is right and what is wrong depending on big powers interest will never end up well. For example when Kosovo declared independence 13 years ago it was immediately recognized by Western countries and we saw 0 talk about preserving borders of Serbia and respecting international law. Why? Because Kosovo has one of the biggest US base in Europe there, because country is poor and politicians very corrupt but full of natural resources that can be exploited. And for 13 years negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo offered excuses for many highly paid jobs for diplomata while moving nowhere and ignoring all things that Kosovo didn't do that was negotiated between countries.

So when you open Pandora box like that of course that other big power will use that and do the same. I have no doubt that Russia had a lot to do with populating Donbas area with their people for years and then pushing them to declare independence, just like US and west did with Albania and Kosovo. And West was just poking the bear since then instead working to make things right because west doesn't care about Ukraine they care about their self interest and that is again natural resources and possibly to have military close to Russia.

Add to that whole another level of corrupt media, false reportings and stupid people and you get what we are getting every few years around the world.

It will come, one day, maybe XD
Well, it is likely, I guess MS will want to put SP content on Steam to maximize the benefits so I kind of expect Crash 4 and Tony Hawk to come, some others too perhaps.

Eh even if they decide to do that it won't come before 2024. If everything goes according to plan they will take over ABK in 2023 and it will take at least a year before they do something. I just hope that if they decide to do something they will remove stupid always online sh*t from both Crash 4 and THPS 1+2

Well, maybe some of the smaller stuff will come sooner to give Bobby a few more bucks.
