With all the companies joining the cloud gaming race, I think Valve could kill them all easily by simply adding an optiion to stream cloud save supported games in your library through MS Azure or something else.

As in, free or sub to get the option to stream your cloud save supported games. Letting people have the option to both download and stream games.

Stadia, Amazon, Facebook, MS (for that matter) may have good servers, but they need a vast diverse library and a platform that people trust. Valve has that.

While I love the class system, the combat system really is incredibly flawed. Of course, I am not asking for an elaborate FFT, and I dont even like Disgaea's puzzle-like environmental effects system. Basic gameplay mechanics such as bonus damage (or chance to crit) for height advantage or line of sight should had been implemented. Is it decent? Yes. But for me, decent is mediocre.
Well, I haven't played Disgaea or FFT yet. But if these games are even better than Fell Seal, I'm very interested to do so. Where do I start?

The Disgaea series is popular in the tactics community. There is a spin-off that is escaping my mind right now that is really good according to those who have the same taste as mine but haven't played it yet. FFT may be a little bit old for first-time players but it remains the "best", I mean it is very much expected that there is grind in these games, but there are parts in FFT that will make people quit as it just gets quite overwhelming, not just in combat but the sidequests and class tinkering.
For me, the best starting point is the remake of Tactics Ogre: LUCT on PSP because of it has QoL that respects player's time. But what I was looking for in Fell Seal is encapsulated in two games: Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis in GBA and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, they are the lean version of these games that might be lesser in scope, but so tight in terms of gameplay mechanics.
Which reminds me, fuck Square for not porting the tactical rpg classics on PC.

FFT is only grindy and time consuming if you go by class guides, min maxing your team and breaking the game, playing it normally/blind it's great imo. I'm not great at these games (it was probably my first and I've only played less than a handful to completion including that and Front Mission 3) and I managed to complete it back in the day though it did have a fair share of hair pulling moments but yeah, love the story and systems. I believe everyone was harsh on its translation back then, maybe my English wasn't on par but it still evoked the great story to me, with top notch presentation. Granted Vagrant Story did show better language soon after but I dunno if the initial text in FFT was meant for such a vibe anyway despite the fact it's clearly taking after the same themes in a more mature, darker manner, including the top notch art style that was no longer in chibi sprites and strict iso perspective. Later ports re-translated it iirc.

Lets take a look at some action 2D games this time in "Discoveries in Discovery Queue"!

Hero of Not Our Time

2D heavy action move and gun game where you can customize your weapons for maximum fun.

Hero of Not Our Time is a 2D top-down action game with elements of 90s classics. The player will have to move through neo-noir dungeons looking for a way out, simultaneously destroying various monsters using magic and weapon, cleaning up location after location.
Got home from school or... kindergarten? Highkey angry?

- Log in, killed, Log out.
  • ASSEMBLE UNIQUE WEAPON SAMPLE
A bunch of details and no customization restrictions.
  • CREATE MAGIC SPELLS USING YOUR OWN BLOOD
Spiritism and rituals will heal you and make you stronger.
  • IMPLANT ELECTRONIC STUFF RIGHT IN YOUR HEAD
Different chips and improvements that might be connected to your skull will make your gameplay more fun and crazy.
  • DISMEMBER CROWDS OF ENEMIES
You will meet new enemies on your way, difficulty will increase over time.
  • ULTRAVIOLENCE STIMULATION
All that cruelty will be accompanied by energy EDM music in Synthwave and Darksynth genres.

Rite

Very Precision platformer with 150+ levels, tight controls, and with simple readable maps.

RITE is a high-speed precision platformer where you must conquer a series of demanding trials, a rite of passage for every Nim.
Find the key and reach the exit to move on to the next trial, and maybe collect some gold along the way. Who knows, they could prove valuable to those who like a brutal challenge..
For fans of platformers old and new, RITE features 160 carefully crafted levels, fluid and responsive controls, lush pixel art, and an original soundtrack by Grand Prize Big Fuzz.

Cannibal Crossing

Play with up to 3 other friends in this randomly generated map to survive a zombie apocalypse.

Cannibal Crossing is an over the top action-survival game where you must explore a randomly generated town while scavenging, building a base, fighting hordes of deadly foes, and searching for a way to escape! Along the way, you'll encounter bandits, cannibals and beasts (mostly cannibals) – as well as other survivors. Face increasingly large swarms of enemies as you add to and improve your arsenal of weapons.
  • Play Alone – or With Up to 3 Friends: Face the days alone or get by with a little help from your friends in a cooperative experience. Run slightly faster than them so they get eaten instead of you.
  • Randomly Generated Open World: Earlsboro has a different layout every time you play, and you will have to adapt to find the supplies you need. Explore the town to find special encounters, unique buildings with their own specialized loot, and places to fortify for temporary safety.
  • Rescue Other Survivors: Help out other survivors, who will then be available to follow you around, help you upgrade buildings, and become permanently unlocked as playable characters.
  • Choose Your Character: There are 10 unique characters to play, with their own traits, special abilities, equipment, and playstyles. Each character has their own unique unlockable classes, for even more ways to play the game.

Prodigal

2D puzzle adventure game that seems inspired on older gameboy games such as Links Awakening.

Following the death of his parents, Oran has returned home. But things have changed in the town of Vann's Point and Oran hopes to reconnect with those he once knew. Although, not everyone is open to a prodigal son, and it's up to you to work hard and earn your place back in town.
  • Aid the townsfolk and discover the truth hidden within Vann's Point.
  • Face the wrath of the arena for cold hard coin!
  • Meet charming ladies and try to swoon your way into their hearts the only way you know how. . . lengthy character development and awkward social interactions! Play your cards right and there may be a marriage in your future!
  • Master the tools at your disposal to solve challenging puzzles.
  • Explore 9 treacherous dungeons with the promise of treasure!
  • Gear up with supplies from the local tavern and herbalist… It may mean the difference between life and death.
  • Treat your ears to an original mix of chiptune coupled with instrumentals for a nostalgic experience.
  • Fancy a break from dungeons and puzzles? Risk it all in the “definitely not rigged” Crocasino! Or risk life and limb in the local arena by talking to the gal in charge. . . or by participating!

I didn't get the translation criticism back in the day. Well, it probably helps that English is not my native tongue. LMAO. Front Mission 3's fake internet should have been implemented in all games.

You are seriously heating my SRPG spot, people.
Never played TO / FFT, and reading about Front Mission reminds me how I waited so long for the translation of 2 only for it to be left at 99% IIRC. Near complete translations must be a trademark for the series at this point :thinking-blob:

Emulate Front Mission 3, and then move on to other games in the series.
Phone port of FFT is really impressive, though I suggest getting the PSP rom with no-slowdown ROMhack.

Other than that, GBA, NDS and 3DS have heaps of SRPGs.

Phil on Steam:

If we are shipping a first-party game on PC it's coming to Steam and our own store. Like we built an expectation from our customers. That's my goal, and then there will be, as you said, maybe little anomalies every so often and because of relationships and certain developers that want to do certain things, but my goal is: make games as playable by as many people as possible so that this art form continues to grow. And I wanna be all in on the places where Xbox is, so a customer of those platforms can have an expectation that I'm gonna get to go play. And I feel good about the games that we are building, and I feel good about that on PC. You know if I rewind five years ago, I would say over and over, that we are committed to PC and then get a bunch of eye rolls, and rightfully so for we weren't doing much. But I think now when you look at what our standing is on Steam and Game Pass on PC, we have shown that our commitment over time has paid off. PC customers may or may not love what we do, but they know that when we are shipping things, we're gonna do our best effort on PC as well as on Xbox.

This looks cool for Front Mission and is fully translated by aeon genesis. It's like assault suits type 2D mech shooter games. I haven't delved in SNES games yet...

I dunno if that 3-part walkthrough with like 4 hours in each part is indicative of real length or some kind of grind to unlock stuff is involved but yeah, looks meaty.

Last day for the Disco Elysium discount.
As much as I'm interested, I will try to keep my October as no-purchase as possible. Life out of overdraft is maybe reachable in a not so distant future, and I am interested in pricey hardware anyways, so every little bit count.

It hurts though, I'm half convinced the year end sale won't be as low. It's an anniversary discount after all.
I never said that. My account has been hacked by a Russian oligarch. And it was non binding anyways.

I’m poorer :confounded-face:
Never take a quick look at a discounted game when it’s near the end of the sale.

I tried to get into Andromeda three times, never made it longer than 6 hours. I don't even have problems with the weird face animations, the dialogues are what makes me quiet. It often kills the mood or scene by trying to be "edgy", "hype" and "cool". It often sounds like written by adults mimicking "cool teens".
Not just during story Cust scenes, your companions can make incredible dump comments during combat as well like: "That annoyed him, probably because I shoot him in the face." or other stupid stuff. Thinking about it, the TV show Star Trek Discovery had often a remarkably similar problem.

Don't get me wrong, many games have silly stuff in them. But Andromeda's writting constantly breaks the fiction for me.

Which is a problem, because I really loved ME for the fiction and the world it created.

Looks like Halloween sales are pretty much starting everywhere today, Steam is also this week, right?
I think I'll nab the last 4 Higurashi games if they go on sale as my Spoopy Steam Purchase. Gonna need to check out if there's anything else decent. Still waiting on a decent Atelier sale :negative-blob:
And I'm very tempted to buy God Eater 3 for ~10 bucks GOD EATER 3 Steam Key for PC - Buy now

Speaking of SRPGs some of the user reviews on Tenderfoot Tactics make it sound pretty intriguing and unique but still decidely scratching that sort of itch too.

So what is people GOTY thus far? Need to know if there is any game I can't miss!:D
Honestly I've barely played anything from this year and even less that I'd consider GOTY worthy.
A bit ago I would have said Genshin Impact, but it's current "end-game" is becoming such a miserable experience and is so fundamentally flawed that my enthusiasm is way down, even though I know that rationally speaking I had a ton of fun in the dozens of hours before that and I don't really have to continue - but I want to, because there's technically a lot left that I could and would do, but the game actively does not let me do that. Gah.

So I guess it will be Ori by default, since that's the only other GOTY worthy game I've played this year. (Persona is in a weird spot where I really like the game, but barely played it on PC, because I've already finished it years ago and don't really know if I want to put it on the list or not).
Which I don't really mind, since I did enjoy the heck out of Ori.

So, the best option is buy them directly from Ubisoft store or Epic?
Ubi, Epic kinda just gives you an Uplay key, like if you buy an Ubi game on Epic everything is done through Uplay from what I've read.

I personally plan on playing through future Ubisoft games via UPlay+ then buy them cheap on sale down the road, maybe they are on Steam by then.

I haven't played too many games released in 2020, but Cloudpunk is certainly looking at top contention for me (it's got like 1 or two games to go against). 2020 was my backlog year
