Just finished Mafia. Enjoyed it a lot. Looks good and plays ok. Shooting is a little bit off but i played on medium so it wasnt too much of a hinderance. Really like an open world game that his a pretty linear path through it. Steam says ive played 11.2 hrs. Thats about right for me for a game. Played it, liked it, moving on.
that's how all games should be tbh

Which browser do y'all use on desktop?
i use two. firefox for most browsing, i really like the container setup and auto syncing between computers. i also use the new chromium edge for media watching and casting to my tv because its basically chrome without the google stuff and runs while taking up less resources.

depends on the game for me. carrion i finished with 1000 achievement points in 6ish hours and i felt that was the perfect amount time for what it had to offer. for a telltale/adventure style story game i'd prefer only a few hours so it didn't feel like stretching it just to stretch it. but on the other hand, if i played a final fantasy that was 6 hours to finish 100% i'd be annoyed at it.

and then there's mmos & service games i get into which are basically endless depending how you want to play. if i were to look at my /played for wow or ffxiv it'd be frightening

edit: i checked

wow is probably nearing a year across all characters but that's spread out over 13ish years or however long.

Unless the game is exceptional, my interest wanes after 15 hours. I feel 12-15 hours is the perfect length for a game. I like to feel my time is valued, rather than ascribing value to the number of hours the game provides.

That said, my all-time favourite games are titles that last a lot longer than 12-15 hours. Persona 4 Golden, NeiR:Automata, Deus Ex, Shenmue, and so on.

I've spent 250+ hours on XCOM 2. Probably spent over 500 on Trials Evolution back on the 360. Some games are infinitely replayable, some are a one and done and for those about 10-15 hours is all i care to put into them. I like a complete game that i can finish and move on.

You guys are crazy, 11 hours is good for a game? As a poor person, I want my games to last at least 100 hours!

Word.
I like my games very long. if I like the gameplay why would I want it to end after 15 hours for example? I would be searching for a new great game in quick succession.

Currently playing a modded Factorio (Pyanodon) And with 150 hours, I am still in early game, transitioning to middle game. The production lines are super complex and need heavy planning to make a functioning base. I like that shit.

I am 700+ hours on XCOM 2, and probably 1 million hours on Oblivion since 2008. LMAO

It actually depends for me. I have no problems playing long games as I long as I can remember what to do after taking a break from them, that's probably why I do not like JRPGs anymore. I play a lot of sim games, for them to last 10 hours or for me to only endure them for that span, that's a failure on the game's part.

CohhCarnage just announced that he has signed with Twitch. Making Ad-rolls mandatory, which he was opposed to in the past.
Don't know what to think about this. :shrugblob:

I didnt even know that was out for sale yet Lol jesus
I hear it here all the time with the anime stuff, I'm used to it
It looks fine for a starwars game, but I don't like star wars. Even ignoring that I don't like dog fighting flying games so if I take those into account it's kind of like well it's clearly not for me but I can't see anything wrong with it besides that it's starwars

Risen feels like a simplfied and less janky Gothic. I'm quite enjoying it.
Risen 2 is good as well!
I have 55+ hours in Risen, and 56+ hours in Risen 2! They're pretty great (I haven't played the gothic series yet, they're on my list to get around to)

Risen 3 is uh... I've tried starting that like five times and I just have no fucking idea what they did all I can say is it's pretty fucking awful but the general "idea" of what Risen was is there along with the characters

As a massive fan of the original Gollop game I started rather lukewarm toward it, but XCOM 2 plus War of The Chosen turned out to be possibly my favorite and most replayed single player game of the last ten years or so.

For me it's all about variety. Sometimes I just want a short experience that I can beat in a weekend, sometimes I want to spend time on a massive thing.

Playing 100 hour games back to back is exhausting.

These playtime records:astonished-face:

I think my most-played game is Xenoblade 2. Sank 300 hours into it but I will probably play it again in the future.

I mean there is a reason why they (CD project red) are saying the MQ for CP2077 is shorter.

There is a reason. I honestly felt if they took out 50% of the side shit and tweak the experience in TW3 I would have had a better time. I gave it a good 60+ hours and I only remember two notable quests. Lot of the side shit was follow batman vision lol.

Side content is optional so taking it out would have only hurt the experience for those who did enjoy it. The great thing about these games is that you have a lot of freedom to tailor the experience to your liking, including skipping side content that you are not interested in.

Except need dat exp for level ups. I am also talking about parts of the MQ being kind of anticlimatic and very drawn out. I don't need batman vision even with the view change disabled. The last side quest I did was literally a MMO fetch quest using batman vision. Should have done it when it was yellow as green gave really shitty exp lol.

Lets take a look at some weird games this time in "Discoveries in Discovery Queue"!

Learn Code Development, Unity Code Monkey

Free to play game that contains the knowledge of the dev that can also be found in the author's website https://unitycodemonkey.com/. It seems to be a good starting step to learn a bit of C# and Unity.

I am your Code Monkey and here you will learn everything about Game Development in Unity using C#.
I've been developing games for several years with 8 published games on Steam and now I'm sharing my knowledge to help you on your own game development journey.
Learn all about it with Interactive Tutorials, Step-by-Step Guides and included Project Files for Complete Games!
Make your own games and bring your ideas to life!
High Entropy: Challengues

Free to play quirky immersive sim. The dev is prototyping stuff, so it has some nice interesting ideas.

Use computers (via GUIs or the command line), unlock doors, crawl through vents, fight enemies head on or find other ways to neutralize or avoid them...
High Entropy: Challenges is a free, action-adventure FPS (inspired by some of my favorite immersive sims) consisting of a beginning, 15 levels, a default ending and a special ending if you finish with a 100% score in all levels.
Escape Quest

An escape room experience for 1 or multiple players. Right now ithas only 1 room, but seems to want to expand on it.

Embark on an escape game adventure alone or with up to 3 friends.
Set in a medieval fantasy world, communication & observation will be your key tools to succeed and free yourself.
As in any escape game, your goal is to get out by inspecting your surroundings and solving puzzles in order to find the exit.
The game currently contain one room, designed to take around 1 hour to escape. This time can vary depending on how sharp you and your friends are :)
Submarine Titans

Underwater classic RTS (from the 2000s!) finally coming to Steam. Enjoy fighting in a marine environment with super weird high tech!

In the year 2047, a massive comet ravages Earth's surface and the remnants of mankind descend to the bottom of the ocean in order to survive. A century passes, and humans, resilient and enduring, slowly create new life in their cool blue underwater universe. But even in the still of the deep, one truth remains... where man goes, war soon follows. The craddle of civilization has spawned the seeds of man's destruction and now all the oceans of the world are not big enough for the embattled civilizations of the power-hungry White Sharks, the technologically savvy Black Octopi and the alien Silicons. Deploy armies, research technologies, mine for resources and set in motion a plan to gain control of this spellbinding abyss or find the fate of civilization and mankind dead in the water.

I have found that long ass games quality drops. Hence why I never finished witcher 3. Ignoring the boring combat, most of the quests were so stupid and pointless. I never made it to the third map.
Using Witcher 3 as an example for a long game with bad quests. Ooof, that's certainly a take.
Well, on the bright side, at least you don't need to spend any money on Cyberpunk 2077.

Update on Character Creation in BG3. Looks extremely good. Seems like indie devs can do face scan better than many AAA studios.

May try it due to CD mentioning officially that they are making it shorter. Then TW3. Due to complaints.
They said cp2077 is shorter because most people didn't finish the game and not because of complaints.
People not finishing their games is unfortunately normal though.

Just played a little bit of Squadrons, the tutorial and a bit of the first mission before quitting to figure some settings out. Loads of technical annoyances and quirks on this thing but holy fuck in VR it's simply awesome to be in a TIE fighter cockpit, the scale of everything is spot on, it feels scary to weave around a fleet or structures or whatever and that ship feels appropriately nimble and fragile. I don't think any other game got this so right before and I've played others in VR. I don't imagine the rest of the game design and what not will be on par but they have a solid core here that ideally they will expand on in the future.

I wanted to play with just instruments, no HUD (which still has hud elements like a rectangle around your target and crosshair mind) but in the TIE fighter at least it seems impossible. Without arrows to tell you the direction the target you try to follow disappeared toward you have to avert your eyes to the in-cockpit radar because the TIE fighter only has a small forward window so you can't just follow the target with your eyes as you dogfight, perhaps it's more doable as a rebel.
