You're honestly not wrong but I think where it stems from is that abuse and the nuances of grey of those toxic relationships is rarely explored in games. But to me the honestly wham moment was his own suicide when you ride back to Crow's perch. That one really elevated this quest from something compelling to something that remained with me. I don't think anything could live up to the kind of hype it received, but I did find it genuinely good, just not citizen kane-y.

Also to me one of the most intense moments of that game was getting the worst ending. It was depressing, but also so well-executed.
Wait, does that always happen? I don't remember that at all. I just remember that the Baron disappears and you don't see him again after the quest line is done.

I've also been playing Phasmophobia over the last week. It's really fantastic. I'm playing it in VR with some friends (non-VR) every night.

My friends didn't want to go back in, so it was left to me. My heart was racing by the time I got out, but I got that damn picture.

I'm really impressed by how effective the game manages to instill dread, and even more impressive in a co-op environment.

BTW to my Gamepass bros, remember to keep track of your Microsoft Rewards. Every ~5k points nets you $5 bucks. You can earn points by playing different games, earning achievements, using the mobile app, etc.
Does this work with PC only players, or do I need an xbox console to get started?

PHasmophobia is now blowing up on Twitch and Steam. Steam has been having a great year.
Seems like every month some game explodes and does big #s on Steam.

Can't wait to see how Cyberpunk does next month. Its been among top sellers on Steam the past year as a preorder.

I'm guessing Fallout 4 #s... so 400k+ concurrent.

Not always, you are right. However it is what I got after my choices that first time, and I have to say, it was hella impactful.

In 2020 that's actually not that much! In absolute terms, that's a crapload but for games... It's not super high, at least in my opinion.
$100M in a Chinese developed games is different from $100M in the US though.
Like, a very, very large difference.
There's a reason why CDProjekt games are so much cheaper, and why you can get Chinese RPGs' visuals that shit all over the entire Japanese production despite having a fraction of the budget.

Lets take a look at some VR and others this time in "Discoveries in Discovery Queue"!

Hotshot Racing

An arcade simple polygonal driving game with tons of content and more in the way.

Hotshot Racing is a blisteringly fast arcade-style racing game fusing drift handling, razor-sharp retro visuals and an incredible sense of speed to create an exhilarating driving experience.
Developed by racing game veterans SUMO Nottingham and Lucky Mountain Games, Hotshot Racing is an all-new driving experience which revives the classic arcade gameplay of the 90s and thrusts it into the modern era.
Yupitergrad

A VR cartooney platformer that puts you in a space dieselpunk adventure!

Can you imagine VR game almost free of motion sickness or headaches? How about roaming through industrial space station with grappling hooks and spatial boosters like a space Indiana Jones? Ever wanted to see the perspective of a space comrade, all soaked in Dieselpunk vibe? Or wondered how acrobatics in space, zapping off ledges and walls, would feel like?
Well look no further Yupitergrad is THE complete package - of ALL above. Arcade platforming like you haven't seen before. Spatial riddles where you need to be both dexterous and quick-thinking. All bathed in gritty, Slavik, humorous story and wacky acrobatics you simply WON'T find ANYWHERE else.
So, my dear comrade...ready to become the Space Soviet Tarzan™...? 👨‍🚀
Stride

A parkour VR game that reminds of the good parts of Mirrors Edge.

“In the first early-access release, STRIDE will consist of one arcade mode called “Endless Mode” which features endless level generation. In this mode, players will be able to try out all the mechanics of parkour such as jumping, climbing, wall-running, sliding, ziplining and hooking.
Our aim is to convey a real sense of height, danger, and dynamic movement as players navigate through the realistic environment of city rooftops. We set ourselves the task of realizing the real sensations of parkour from the comfort of your virtual reality headset.”
CyberOps

A hacking strategy game where you direct your team and try to support them through hacking.

The young nation of Baltia has earned its right to freedom after a long and painful war, but now the stakes are higher than ever before.
You are part of the Geist Division, a secret high-tech unit created by the government to protect the country from all kinds of next-gen threats. As the Operator, your mission is to provide remote support to a group of spec-ops agents deployed in urban terrains. You must control devices and systems with your deep hacking abilities, and scan the environment to provide the safest routes for your squad.

While the story in squadrons isn't special, and I'm falling asleep during conversations with the rebel pilots. I like the portrait of the estranged, leadership less Empire where every cell is acting on its own, practically sabotaging themselves.
The backdrops and visuals are superb, by the way: Escorting transporters through an asteroid field while a Star Destroyer is constantly chasing you?
Hell yes! That's some exciting stuff. Not perfectly executed but I love it.

This looks rather reminiscent of that scene in Solo :)

New Nvidia driver(s) is still borked with AMD CPUs and I'm still averaging far worse performance than I should.

Yay, Nvidia! Maybe on time for Cyberpunk, pretty please?

Any more info on this? I have a 3700X and a 2080TI, and I didn't notice far worse performance on Control or Death Stranding.

It's an issue several people are experiencing with recent Nvidia drivers (456.38 and further) which causes low GPU usage on many games, resulting in far worse performance compared to what people were seeing before updating. I can't find it right now but there was a long discussion about it on the Call of Duty sureddit, and several topics in the Nvidia forums.

The only common point that came out is that everyone experiencing this problem is mounting an AMD CPU.

I have a 3700x as well and a 3080 FE and it never goes beyond 50% usage in Death Stranding despite no bottleneck anywhere in the system. I'm still getting good FPS numbers (but far from those that came out in the reviews and several user benchmarks mounting a similar Intel CPU) but there's definitely something wrong.

EDIT: I can also switch randomly from 720p to 1440p, low to ultra, DLSS to no DLSS and have exactly the same performance.

It is now the global top seller.

The picture is the worst objective. We had a few video recorders set up from room and to room as a friend went to anger the ghost and snap the photo, while I just watched from the truck. When the hunt started, he took out the crucifix and immediately began bolting for the door , but he didn't make it. I got a great view in the truck of the ghost snapping his neck though 🤣

I honestly don't know. But I assume most console players are using controllers. It must work well.

Austria

This looks very pretty
Yes, and as an Austrian, its cool to see games set here*. Well, technically this is probably set closer to where Durante lives, but we do have plenty mountains here too ;)

* I can only think of a handful games - and there mainly "The Lions Song" - specifically set in Austria (and maybe a few WW2 games that have levels with Alpine setting).. it would be cool to have more.
