Remedy is one of those devs that have some sentimental sympathy, because of their older games (mainly Death Rally and Max Payne), but they do they to take "fuck customers" deals a bit too much. Also, I have to say that — in my opinion! — they fall a bit into the niche of devs that seem to think their stories are way more amazing than they truely are, when their true strengths are mainly making games that look very pretty and worlds that are fun to explore (with gameplay feeling often like an afterthought).
I dont really share any hype for Alan Wake 2 because I thought the first game was a chore to play (especially the combat), and the story, was not as great or interesting – again, in my opinion – as the consensus seems to be. I probably wouldnt even get it if it was on Steam, to be honest.

I also wanted to chime in on the recent discussions of the quality of Cities Skylines 2 as well as the Metal Gear collection: I totally get the viewpoints of "at least we have it" and I also acknowledge the (even if its a bit tiring) "it works fine for me" stance – but truely, demanding better from publishers benefits everyone, in the end.
If you are happy with barebones ports, okay. If you are happy with subpar performance, okay. I'm sometimes also okay with games that others heavily criticise.

But I hope you can see that this can – and does – set precedents for publishers to think its okay to do less and less (in terms of effort; or more and more in terms of shitty service) and still get away with it. Its a slippery slope, similar to Blizzard, Paradox and other publishers testing "just how much extra DLC and other extra items to buy can we cram into this full-price game and still get away with it?". The more people roll with it, the more they do it.

I wasnt super happy with the negative Steam user reviews of Overwatch 2, because I want Blizzard to release more games on Steam (especially WOW, so I never have to use Battlenet again), but they are deserved, and Blizzard should listen to them and be better.
The same is true for criticising any other publisher – for releasing their games with an exclusivity deal, or with poor performance, or with the barest of effort, or with the maximum of DLC and other monitization.
Whether you are a huge fan of a certain game/series and have been waiting for a long time for a sequel/remaster/Steam release should not matter in that regard.

They want to sell to you, demand better of them.

Capcom is planning to update RE Engine in the future to REX. The technical stuff goes beyond my understanding, but I'm simply happy companies are still doing inhouse engines and not giving in to the Unity and Unreal duopoly.

The only way for EGS to become successful is if people start buying third party games there en masse without epic bribing them, and I can't see that happening when EGS offers precisely nothing to attract people to do that. People only go there for exclusives, free games, and big coupon-subsidized discounts (which have been retired now, afaik).
The coupons will return, but there was an internal document that showed they will only run during the Black Friday sale which is one week instead of the normal 3 week holiday sale. The holiday sale is supposed to have cash back rewards doubled to 10%. Of course plans can change.

By the way just in case some people are out of the loop I did want to bring up some news about EGS (this isn't new and has been known for a few months now).

Epic has 2 programs set up now. I think they are called Epic Now and Epic Next. Epic now is releasing games on EGS exclusively for 6 months, of which time the dev can make 100% of game sales, then it's back to their regular rate.

Then there is Epic Next........ Oh boy, for this one a game publisher/dev has to make a deal with Epic were they release all of their games on Epic. There is more to it though, if you have made more than 3 games all three of those games have to be on EGS before the end of 2025. This potentially means going back to old games and adding Epic Online Service?

So with Epic Next I guess that Epic plans to force devs to release on EGS from now on, rather thank skip it. I can't remember all the terms though.

I'm also a proud owner of AW2 - Bucaneer Edition.

I'll throw some doubloons their way once the game gets on Steam

Edit: runs like ass on my 3070... I guess I got what I paid for.
I'm not sure that I want to play this game without raytracing... Maybe I'll wait for whenever the RTX 5000 series is released.

Today marks 5th anniversary of this masterpiece

One of the goats for sure.

And one of those rare games where all you had to do was launch the photo mode and everything on screen looked stunning. Didn't matter how much you zoomed in or which direction you looked at. It was all worthy of capturing.

(Speaking about CSL2)
I don't disagree with being vocal when a game is released in a poor state — and CSL2 undoubtedly is in such state.
But I'm bothered by all the scaremongering reviews about major perf issues (e.g. rigs running current top CPUs and GPUs just about to catch fire in the menu screen) that popped up in a matter of hours from release.

It's not a "works for me" thing. I hate how CSL2 looks with that crappy AA and all those texture in perma-loading state.
It's just that I despise the anxiety loop triggered by these comments. It's not useful for anyone, it only creates noise, and it will mostly be a waste of time for devs trying to fix the legit bugs.

Many of us grew up gaming, but we obviously don't have money to buy games when we're in school, so what did we do? Arrr me matey!
I mean I know what I'm looking at, sorry for the confusion :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes: What I meant is do I need to play Alan Wake 1 to understand what is going on in Alan Wake 2? I would obviously like to buy it, but it's only on the Epic Store, so sorry not sorry.

Oh lol. It's a sequel, but designed as a stand-alone sequel. It's an original story that they wanted new players to enjoy.
But there are connections, so playing AW1 and Control beforehand will add to the experience apparently.

Control is related to Alan Wake? I didn't know that. Anyway, I won Alan Wake 1 recently in the giveaway here, so I will probably play that first, but before that, I need to complete Tales of Vesperia and Lies of P.

Having suffered through Alan Wake, American Nightmare (which was surprisingly good) and Control, I imagine that you don't need to play Control. It links to a very secondary character of Alan Wake.
Now, understanding the status quo of Alan Wake and where the fuck he is at the start of the sequel ? No idea. We need a chart. This is 'Where is Charlie'. I suppose he still is in
some sort of Limbo.

My personal GOTY is Zelda, but I want BG3 to win at TGA because I like an underdog story and seeing Larian go over Nintendo would be fun. I'm guessing the nominees for TGA will be Zelda, BG3, Spidey 2, Alan Wake 2, RE4 and Starfield. The first three are locks, but I'm slightly iffy on the other three.

That map currently has a whopping zero players.

I would love the old west setting of this game but msn I hate the gameplay of every Rockstar game I’ve ever played and always bounce off them super fast.

Cyberpunk 2077 seems pretty great now but it still clearly has a lot of technical issues. If I drive somewhere mildly distant, rather than fast travel, after about 20 seconds there's just no people, no cars, no anything because the game can't keep up I guess. Even when just walking around, I'll look at something, turn around, and look back and sometimes there's like way more stuff or just completely different stuff.

The game looks fantastic maxed out but even with a 4090 I struggle to get above 4k 40 FPS with high-ish settings (which, yes, 4k is a lot, but 4k 60fps is exactly why I wanted to spend a bunch of my money on a 4090). It definitely feels like DLSS is mandatory, without it I can't even break 20 FPS in the benchmark.

All that said, I'm still having fun. The technical issues are more like immersion-breaking than actually impactful to gameplay, unlike Jedi Survivor where the terribleness of everything really impacted the second-to-second gameplay.
Replying to myself here - this was my experience on my desktop PC, and then I was messing around on my couch PC and the experience was VERY different (super fast load times, no popping in, didn't see much in the way of dropped animations), which made me realize I accidentally installed it on my HDD on my desktop PC. Transferred it to my SSD and yea it's staggeringly better.

Also the 4k works a lot better outside of the benchmark for whatever reason, it looked great and smooth the whole time I was playing. Way better than the benchmark fps.

This is great since I still consider MGSV by far the best Third Person Shooter created. It just feels so great. The game definitely has its issues, but as far as just looking around and walking and how you shoot your guns it's just great. I like Rockstar stuff like RDR2 but it just felt sluggish, which is the only bad thing about that game (it's really hard to find a nice balance between realism and game feel)

Speaking of MGS, If it was not for the 3DS version of MGS3D I don't think I would have ever finished Snake Eater. While the game may look bad, it's by far the best way to control the game. This is one of the reasons why I don't feel like playing MGS1 and 2 after having played that 3DS game and Peace Walker, and MGSV since that's how I want the game to control.

I mean, MGS V gameplay was superb, if remake is remotely similar, it will be amazing.
Yep. MGSV has its issues and I assure you I could go on about them at length but gameplay wasn't one of them. That's why I was hoping the MGS3 remake would be more of a Capcom/Resident Evil-style reimagining instead of a completely faithful 1:1 remake. The jungle setting would be kinda perfect for a more open-style of map design like in MGSV.
