So... I bought the battle pass. But some of the things are confusing. Like, what is an Elite Opponent? Does that only mean the level 36 world bosses?
Yeah, elite bosses are those level 36 elemental enemies. They're marked as "Elite" in your handbook.

Is there any incentive for playing coop? The early dungeons are mostly just for materials and are very short, just wondering if you get bonus drops or anything
I've only tried co-op once, but from what I know you can kill bosses in the host's world and get the loot even though you've killed that boss in your world. So that's a boon if you're looking for a specific loot from a boss/dungeon that's still on cooldown in your world. You can also loot the host's chests.

I've switched out Chongyun for Xiangling, I feel like Chongyun's ice field skill isn't as good as I thought. Fire + Electro + Water works nicely as well.
And I've reached Rank 25! Now to gather mats and stuff to ascend my team!

Also, Liyue is like 3 times more interesting than Mondstadt. I haven't started the main quest there yet, but activated all teleporters :grimacing-face: and it has some really cool locales and puzzles. And quests in very unexpected locations that the game expects you to find on your own.
(I found Beidous ship :p )

I finished the Mondstadt story today, still enjoying the game a lot.

I love using Fischl as support, but I'm still flip-flopping on the rest of my party.

I've just been using Fischl, Barbara and Chongyun. Chongyun is my main source of damage, I don't know what to do with the 4th, I have Amber but it feels out of place but I definitely need her for all the ice stuff I need to burn.

I haven't really been doing the story lol, but I think I wasn't high enough so I was just exploring and doing quests, and I love it, so far I think the quality for the quests are decent, there are decent amount of stuff you could run into, so it's a lot less "WoW"-type MMO quests but more exploration oriented, of course there are still some of those daily quests from town or whatever. I'm exploring Liyue and ascended all my current characters once.

Guess i'll see when i get to higher level dungeons

Welp! I finally fought the dragon... and it didn't go well! I don't think I really understood when I could do damage to him, so I kept waiting and waiting and eventually Venti died and the rest of my team couldn't hit him lol.

What level were your characters? I found the whole fight pretty easy. You just wait
until the dragon puts its claws in the platform, hit them until the white bar bellow his health drops, climb the dragon and attacks the infected part

Here's a couple of good videos to maximize your party output and synergy.

Anyway, weekly battle pass challenges will be reset today.
It's probably helpful but the first tip literally being "look at this interactive map of the game that shows you all the stuff and collect the important ones" is uuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh, not what I'm looking for.

I've been switching my characters to "get rid" of Amber mainly, and now I'm out of gold. I guess I'll have start sending my characters on missions for gold instead of crystals.

Played a bit last night since I finally had some time off and reached AR10. Pretty good! Very good quality feeling for a F2P gacha game. Game doesn't even force upon you the gacha (at least from what I remember) until I had to look up what they were.

I was able to get 20 of those Acquaint Fate and 10 Intertwined Fate. Are all those free ones? Received both by mail and want know I missed any. I did two beginner pulls and got Diluc, Razor, Xingqiu, and Noelle. Seems pretty decent?

I saw you can get Xiangling from doing a challenge when you reach AR20 so I'll try doing that before it ends and you can get a Barbara for just reaching AR20 before 1 1. Anything else I should be aware of?

Are those EXP books the main way to level up? Doing missions don't seem to keep all the characters to a good level.

Yeah, I can't imagine playing the harder content on mobile. The game is a proper console action game which requires lots of movement, aiming, character switching and precise dodging.

You just pulled the 2 best DPS in the game currently, Diluc and Razor, congrats. Yeah, the exp books are your main source to level up. They're infinite, but you shouldn't use them all up, focus on your main characters first.

It's great that it's cross platform and cross save on mobile, but I can't imagine the timed, targeting and platforming challenges being very fun on it.

Also it can't be said enough, but upgrade your artifacts (with +ATK%, or the element of your character, or their best scaling stat like +DEF on Noelle), the damage bonuses get absurd.
Don't hesitate to use blues with decent bonuses, you can just throw them into your epics later with little loss of artifact XP and a much easier life for dozens of hours.

Razor is a beast (pun not intended).
He has over 700 Atk right now at level 40 and I'm not yet done upgrading accessories or weapon :sweaty-blob:

Also ascended him to stage 2 yesterday, and it looks like this is where some limitations are noticeably kicking in. Because those ascension materials require defeating the world bosses, and getting their loot costs 40 resin (of which you have 120 max and it regenerates at a rate of 1 per 8 minutes I think ). And weapon ascension also costs mats that you mostly get from the Domains, where loot also costs resin to open. And there's a bunch of other stuff that also costs resin.

I don't really mind it that much though so far, because honestly I'm pretty sure that's already beyond what you need to comfortably finish all the story and side-content that isn't designed to be extra-difficult repeatable end-game content like the Abyss I guess. But it does slow you down :grimacing-face:

I regret buying the battle pass... I don't see myself getting to level 30 in the next 35 days. The weekly requirements seem really high for someone who has other interests beyond playing Genshin Impact. If the dailies were even close enough to get there, I'd be fine with it, but the dailies won't even get you 1 level a day.

Oh, and Baldur's Gate 3 early access starts today.

Yeah the Battle Pass seems very grindy. This is actually the first game I'm playing that has a battle pass, so I don't have a comparison, but it seems way too much work for me, and I've basically been only playing Genshin Impact for a week now :p
I'll stick to the free version of it and get what I can get playing normally ¯\(ツ)

Totally unrelated, but I've been thinking that Diluc might have actually intended to be Dirk. That's what I got from listening to the japanese dub and considering Mondstadt is very german/european themed with other character names as well. :thinking-face:

When I first saw the island I thought it was just fluff outside the boundaries of the world, but I decided to build me a bridge with Kaeya's ice just to see if it was anything, got me an achievement and a quest, pretty nice.

Exploring the Liyue region and I can't believe I got up there

That was pretty cool, and it is a pretty good hub to use to fly around looking for stuff.

Here's some reading if you like maths and theory crafting: How Does Elemental damage works: Overloaded Reaction

  • Attack value does not affect Elemental Reaction damage.
  • Character level affects elemental reaction damage
  • Low Elemental Mastery and low character level might make you deal penalty Elemental Reaction damage and ignore the added bonus for Elemental Mastery.
  • Only the character trigger the elemental reaction matter. The one that feed initial element does not
  • When dealing with lots of enemies: Use characters with highest level to trigger Overloaded.
  • Optimizing: Having dedicated support to trigger Overloaded dmg, their attack power does not matter, only their level and Elemental Mastery. You can also build them to get high Energy Recharge, thus creating a back bone for your entire team. You dont need to gear up Ember, you just needs her at high level, procs Overloaded and watch the world burn.
  • When dealing with single enemy: Just put your highest dps. Chances are, the Elemental Reaction Damage might be weaker than your average attack.

No, not yet. It's been highly requested since the beta.

The best thing we can do now is streaming. Here's how I play Genshin half of the time.

[Hidden content]
Have you been using Moonlight or Parsec? I'm about to give it a go. Should stream well (desktop wired -> gigabit switch -> wifi5 5ghz eap -> sd720g-based phone) but not sure if the game will read the Razer Kishi as a proper controller for that comfortable Switch-like experience.

I use Parsec, it runs pretty great on my 30mbps connection. I've tried Steam Link too, but I couldn't manage to run it at 60fps. I haven't tried Moonlight as it seems to require GeForce Experience installed, and I don't have it.

I feel now it's time to upgrade the artifacts as the time spent to kill some higher level mobs have gone up considerately, though. I still did not decided on my main team. I enjoy Traveller Ameno and Fischl, Barbara is useful not only for her heals but also her attack making enemies become wet and it synergize with Fischl bird ability. Other character I'm enjoying the combat style is Ningguang, or maybe it just her design that appeal to me ;P too bad Geo doesn't create damage reactions though she seems to run faster than the other characters, at least that was my impression.

Unrelated, but I found that place while exploring yesterday:

I have Nigguang.

Some said she's OP for a mage, but I don't have enough exp books to take her up to the same level as my main party. Not sure if it'll be worth it.

Is there any reason to not ascend a character if you have the required materials?

For the level 20 ascension, not really. Mats are easy enough to come by. Though if it's a character you never play as, you might still want to save them.
For the second ascension at 40 you want to start prioritizing though, since gathering the mats requires a bit of effort and Resin.

Monies, pretty much.
Mora becomes an issue after a while.

Did 20 pulls, 2 4 stars weapons :ripblob:
Mora is definitely becoming a bit of a potential bottleneck.

I have my main team on Ascension 2, and from level 40 to 50 it costs ~100k using the puple EXP books. And you still want to upgrade talents, weapons and artefacts.

Though at the same time it's not really an issue for me yet, since my characters are plenty strong already and it doesn't hamper the exploration and questing at all. (I'm AR 27 and haven't even started the Liyue story, though I explored a good chunk of it and did a bunch of world quests there already).

If you want to reach the maximum power threshold asap things are going to get very expensive, but if you just upgrade a little every day it's fine. We'll see how long that lasts and when/if things are starting to get really painful.

In terms of pulls, I have 70something in the Venti banner. I think I'll do a few more to get another 4* and then maybe save the rest for another rate-up banner, as pity carries over.
I don't really want Venti, but I'd be happy with some of the other 5* characters you might get, but gambling on the 50% chance of not getting Venti and instead getting a character I want doesn't sound like too much of a winning strategy :grimacing-face:
(I've been mainly pulling on it because I like all of the featured 4* characters - I have C0 Fishl, C2 Barbara and C2 Xiangling in my main team - and wouldn't have minded Venti if I "luckily" pulled him early on, but now that I'm reaching the pity threshold holding out for a character I actually want is becoming more attractive).

There are some really good tips you can find in Reddit. Like this one for example. You can use Ningguang to make a static MC wind burst by aiming it at one of the pillars, which is super useful for huge bosses. Without it, the wind burst will travel through the boss' body and deal less damage. Venti is great for this reason, but not everyone can have him (well tbf, Ningguang too).

Another one is Xiangling combo: Full weapon combo > dash to animation cancel > charge attack > jump to animation cancel (you can jump the instant u see the spiral cone thingy which means the 2nd hit of charge atk has registered) > plunge attack.

There's also this post that explains how the craftable 4* Crescent Pike is insane for Xiangling if you use her as a primary damage dealer

Im using a Halberd on her to pump up that ATK stat. Though I'm mainly using her as support.
My team is C0 Fishl, C2 Barbara C2 Xiangling and C0 Razor, and my basic rotation is:
Fischl plops down the Raven, Xiangling plops down Gouba, switch to Barbara (either use her E or not, depending on the situation), switch to Razor (he gets 50% extra ATK from Barbara's Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers for 10seconds) and go into beast mode to literally tear everything apart.

Xiangling is my main damage dealer for electro enemies though (like the Electro-cube) and Razor has the downside that he loses his Burst when its activated and you switch him out, which makes the uptime for the elemental reactions a bit inefficient, so I've been thinking of using her more as a primary DD, since she plays well with Barbara and Fischl, and I could use my Anemo traveller instead of Razor to make some firestorms :thinking-face:
(I've really been neglecting my Traveller :grimacing-face: )

Players are definitely discovering how to exploit the game fully. Makes the tier list far, faaar less true than it might seem at a glance.
Also for Xiangling, the Crescent Pike +20% damage bonus when you get a particle is effectively permanent in combat... but it's actually a "proc" and not extra damage. On EACH hit. And it is multiplied by bonuses. So it can give free extra damage than can get to much, much more than 20% of your base damage and it scales.
Crazy.

Plus today I had enough for 10 pulls.
Got an extra Venti, always welcome, but a 5 stars double also gets you 10 starglitter, so I could buy Razor in the shop.
Now I only need Qiqi and I have two teams ready to go! :face-savouring-delicious-food:
I'll wait for a banner I guess, seems like it could come around December.

Wow, 6 weeks for every update? People are going to leave this game sooner than later. What a huge bummer.

I feel conflicted about it. In one hand an update every 6 weeks means I don't need to invest much time and I can play it on my own pace, on the other hand if I already finish all the story content and explored all the places that is available I don't know if the grind can keep me interested.

There's no doubt that updates will take a while, it's a full on open world RPG, not two PNGs to add every other week. MMOs know all too well how it works (and how people can grind the same 15min dungeon every day for months, even with box+expansions+sub+cash shop+extra "convenience" subs that would be obscene even in a fucking gacha), you can never make content fast enough.

They do need frequent events to keep players engaged, it's both much easier and much less expensive than an entire zone.

I'm sure they're working to get the content out as soon as Paimonly possible.

Game has gotten a very good first impression be a shame if they waste it. Hopefully they can keep delivering and the playerbase is patient enough.
