I dunno why some people dont grasp the idea that Valve is privately owned, not publicly traded... nobody can buy them against their will, and I dont see a single reason why they'd want to be a subsidiary of anyone.
Yeah, when you see a list of the market cap of various companies and then you go "you missed privately owned company X" then at the very least you demonstrated that you have no clue what a "market cap" is.

Not only do people miss that they are private, but also self-funded. Lots of companies, like Epic Games, are private, but Valve is self-funded, which most companies are not.
Yeeep...

Well, we tried.

Alex is very vocal against Valve, he might be even worse than Sweeney XD

Honestly I doubt anyone really knows what Gabe's plans are for Valve when he retires besides his family and maybe some senior Valve employees.

The 10 egs customers must be pissed right now.
Why should they be pissed? They got game early, played it. They also got option to transfer saves and locations from Steam to Epic.

Yup, skipping first year was definitely right choice. I figured they would fuck up EGS -> Steam transfer back somehow.
It looks like that skipping it for another 6 months would be for the best. Not having RayTracing or new mode out tomorrow is making it kinda not worth playing yet.

That Yu-Gi-Oh game is doing very well right now and has over 140k CCU and is currently the 5th most played game on Steam.
I haven't had a chance to duel but I will say that this game is shocking more friendly than Dual Links. It really does help that you can craft cards that you actually want. Not to mention there is a pity system where if you don't get a Ultra Rare after a certain amount of packs, you will get a guaranteed one.

It does however have the modern YGO problem where if your opp could take 3-4 minutes to do their full combo on their first turn if you don't have a handtrap to stop it. Do wish it had more modes for new players or ones that haven't played the game in a long time get eased into vs randomly facing a T1 Deck or a RL Pro player.

fantomena if that person in the tweet is you, that reply is a bit wrong private companies do have shares, they just don't offer them to the public/sell them at the stock market, also they do file financial statements, but they aren't required to disclose financial information.
All US companies private and public are required to file financial statements by law.

Thanks, didn't know that.

Because they might planned to get the Steam version instead, but now if they do, their progress don't transfer?

Took the 3rd vaccine shot yesterday, my body has really down. Super tired, hurts all of my body, feeling warm and cold. I got that young and heatlhy people would feel it the worst, but didnt' expect this.
1st, nothing. 2nd dying - chills, fever, stomach pains, headache; 3rd chills and a sore arm. I expected to basically die from the booster going in.

I feel like the only one in the universe who doesn't play Hitman. I just can't do stealth games, I always impulsively savescum because I don't like failure or things not going just so.
You aren't alone. I'm bad with any game that handles failure mechanics like that (XCOM and it's ilk too). I just can't allow for failure even if the game has built in mechanism for it. Then again I wasn't very good at the original or it's sequels which also has kept me away. I don't know how much has changed between agent 47-blood money and 1-3 and I'm scared to bounce off them if I do try them because of those two factors

Yup not alone. I like the idea of Hitman but i haven't played the "modern" Hitman games at all.
I have far too many other games to keep me occupied.
I've watched a ton of videos of other people playing them though.

Gotta stop reading Twitter – feels like I'm getting dumber doing so.
Following up on the "Valve would be the big target for MS aqcuisition" post, someone posted "Holy, that would be huge. With Valve comes Steam, giving Microsoft complete control over PC gaming."

Yeah no shit, but again, why on Earth would Valve have any reason to sell to anyone?
This just sounds like someone speaking who's got no clue about the PC gaming space, Steam or Valve.

Another replied to fantomena: "Gabe Newell is turning 60 this year, I’m curious how long he’s going to go until he’s ready for the big retirement paycheck"

Gabe's already a billionaire if Im not mistaken, and not everyone is so greedy that they need hundreds of billions. I think Gabe has shown he cares a lot about PC gaming.
I'm thinking Gabe will pass the torch to senior Valve staff at some point, but at 60? C'mon...the guy running Capcom is over 80 and still at it. Then there's people that become US presidents at 78 :p

So why would Gabe shit on everything he and his colleagues have built over 20 years just for more money? I think this viewpoint must come from a person who thinks every human is just greedy and shallow and cannot grasp that Gabe & Valve might just love PC gaming...

~

I know I come across like a fanboy here, but honestly, Valve has got a long history of showing that they care.

A lot of ill-will against them comes from the fact that their services is SO widely adapted that unavoidably some people will have some complaints because Steam isnt tailor-made for them, or Valve hasnt released a sequel to their favourite game yet, or they're a dev that didnt make tons of money selling their game via Steam, or a Steam feature they liked has not been touched/improved for a while ...
you just cannot please everyone! So of course there's gonna be people complaining, its just the nature of things when your service/product grows to a certain extent. There are people who ONLY see negatives, everywhere.

Valve seems to try to make it right for everyone, anyway, though.
Even speaking about the absolute toxic way EGS has been behaving, I havent heard Valve say anything mean about them in return – they just worked on improving their service further.
And now I sounded even more like a fanboy, great. :p

gabbo Dinjoralo Hitman can be played pretty non-stealthy though. In my opinion its almost like an immersive sim in some ways, albeit a limited, more controlled one. You can acquire disguises easily and use those to gain access to forbidden areas, removing the need to sneak. In the lower difficulties, you can also be pretty loud / straigntforward with your approach. And of course, save scumming is always a legit option :D
But I'm biased, I love the Hitman games (from 2016 on, anyway. Before that, they didnt really click with me)

Install size on my PC right now is 64Gb - initial download back in 2021 was 52Gb if I remember correctly. Don't know whether the size difference is new content or just decompression but it's gonna be between those two.
This has to be the one of top improvements, sine 2 was like 150GB. Absolutely gigantic and top reason (along with huge backlog) I never played it that much.

Hitman is a puzzle/adventure game - the only real stealth in it is social stealth.
Hmm it is a puzzle/adventure game too, and there is social stealth, sure – but there is plenty of regular sneaking it is as well, if you wish to play that way – you can absolutely ghost your way through pretty much everything.

But the levels are all huge with plenty of ways to solve things. You can get a disguise and walk into the front door, you could follow the story missions, you can pave your own way and find hidden pathways to get to your target unseen ... and the best thing is to just try it all out and learn all the quirks of a level.

Take this for example: it takes a few minutes to complete, but to find that route, it takes a while. Its a huge sandbox to play around in.

(I recorded this once for some reason, cant remember)

Guys, don't you just love all this competition lately? I bet all the people who praised Epic for providing competition by throwing money around are super happy with the latest developments.
I know exactly the type you are talking about here, and I'm not a big enough person not to be amused at that fact.

(Even though the consolidation of the industry is still an issue in the grand scheme of things)

pokemon arceus runs on yuzu already
Looking forward to reviews, seems to the first mainline Pokemon game that's going for a very different way to traverse the world and interact with pokemon. Actual fights look to be mostly similar, but then again, those were always a strength of the series, so no need to fix what ain't broken.

Been splitting my time between SMTV and Mass Effect 2. The former really needs to be on better hardware.
I can't imagine being a Switch only gamer and having to deal with this IQ on every game I play, portability be damned.

Massive consolidation is not healthy for the industry or us, but it has been inevitable for a long time now. Microsoft certainly didn't invent it (they've been in the game for a long time tho), and definitely did not start it in the videogame landscape.

But I find it hard to care when 90% of the noise out there is simply because for a couple decades, Playstation became the de-facto all-in-one box on the back of their own consolidation and ruthless capitalist tactics, and now their toys are being taken away little by little; their own business practices turned up to 11. "Competition is good" rings different now for a certain group of people.

Eh they haven't really done much that compares to what MS has been doing lately. The thing people probably find most annoying are the timed exclusives but if you go far enough back this was arguably started by MS with the gta IV dlc (god remember when that was considered an industry shaking event? Simpler times lol) and other games like Bioshock. As for PS having hoards of 3rd party exclusives in the ps1-2 era that was mostly by circumstance, not their own doing. They were such a runaway behemoth sales wise, and games back then were still cheap enough to survive on 1 platform, that it just happened. I liken that to so many games being steamworks. That didn't happen because valve moneyhatted people, it happened because they were the clear cut dominant force in the sector.

Acquisitions have always been around but buying entire publishers changed the whole game. Also when you look at all of sony's buyouts they are historically studios that mostly only made sony games to begin with. Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Guerrilla, Bluepoint, Insomniac...xbox people didn't really lose anything by those studios being acquired. MS' buyouts historically are about taking things away from others with a few exceptions like Playground and Undead Labs. I hate consolidation but if it's going to happen I prefer the route that's not really taking things from other people. The shitty thing is all this stuff MS is doing is likely going to provoke a response and you're probably going to see someone like capcom or SE gobbled up.
