Gotta be honest the BL3 numbers make me smile, even though it means Randy gets more success.

I fully believe the clearest message to send to both epic and pubs is that you may still buy the game but you're not going to be yanked around and told what to do and where to do it. Sure take two may have benefited from the moneyhat but that's just for this one game. You'd best believe based on this and everything else that's happened in the last ~6 months it's going to make both Epic and publishers think carefully about future deals.

Happening on EGS:

Im gonna try it out at least, in trailers gameplay seems pretty rough and Im dissapointed it's MP as I would love a good singleplayer Predator game. Predators from the alien universe are just so fascinating.

PcGamesN published an article about the surprisingly high concurrent user count for BL3 on Steam, concluding that this says something about the amount of people who don't want to support EGS.

While it's sad that going EGS exclusive works out for 2K (which will probably lead to more deals), the "vocal minority" narrative is definitely proven wrong now.

I think Blands 3 doing 90k on Steam as a peak is great. It's the biggest Epic exclusive, it's the 3rd party game that raked in most of the 251million and it only doubled Blands 2 Steam peak.

When all other games on Epic performed worse than Blands 3, I can see the Epic Store not doing very well.

It might not be sunshine and puppy dogs down there in Caroline, but I doubt they're running around putting out metaphorical fires over the performance just yet. Our metrics of success are probably quite a bit different than Epic's.

Not to force my views on y'all but this is how i feel about egsclossies rumors

This is how i feel should heavily desired games go egscloosy

Dont let it stress you, just make fun of it or leave it be.
After the pathetic RDR2 deal and former exclusive games being hits on Steam, I have zero reason to care about anything Epic does or might do.

Waste your money away because it aint working and it aint gonna work. All you do is give power to my backlog and games that aren't exclusive, I'm a patient boi.

Sure, but there might be a difference between Epics metric of doing well and publisher/devs metric of doing well. If Epic thought Blands 3 did well on Epic, but 2K did not think it performed well, Epic is the loser in that.

A sign of Blands 3 not doing as well as 2K hoped for might be that the initial plan according to 2Ks press release was that Blands 3 would be a 6 month exclusive and appear on other storefronts in april (which I found to be weird back then, 6 months release, but release in april, making it a 7 month exclusive actually), but they moved it to march.

Also the fact that Metro Exodus released on a saturday on Steam, exactly 1 year after Epic release, I have never seen (as far as I remember) a game being released on a saturday. The game also had 5k user reviews on Steam before the Steam rerelease, now it has 13k.

Of course, this is just my personal observations, but how the publishers have handles the Steam releases points to they want to to release their games asap on Steam, otherwise, why not just delay the Steam release for a while so they can keep checking in those 88% of Epic revenue?

The only weirdo is Ubisoft. The Ubi games that are Epic exclusive, Breakpoint and Division 2 have done so bad they had multiple fire sales and they also releases the games on Stadia which is taking 30% off, so it's not about the dev cut.

Satisfactory is also not releasing when it's been exactly 1 year (unless the devs are trolling), they are 2-3 months away from Steam release as they are still figuring out different things like Steam and Epic crossplay. In one hand, they are not a big dev so I can understand getting things up and ready might be difficulty, on another hand, really? 2-3 months to figure out crossplay and stuff? That's a lot. At least we know it's coming to Steam.

Some of the developers and publishers signing EGS deals were always going to do away like bandits in regards to this. Take Epic's cash, then rake in most of the lost sales on Steam 6-12 months later.

And some developers are going to release absolute shitshows on EGS, not be able to fix it for Steam, and watch the game crash and burn. But they probably needed Epic's cash to get the game even to the state it's in.

I'm not going to lament the bad releases or celebrate the successes of games taking the deals. I'll make my own decisions about whether to buy a game or support a developer or not after the exclusivity is over. My real concern is Epic taking an L. So long as they keep needing to release dodgy figures while very publicly losing, I'll be happy.

Ubisoft was extremely happy with the pc sales of The Division 2, since it pushed a lot of people towards uPlay. Perhaps total sales weren't as good as expected on the long run, but it's very likely that Ubi signed another exclusivity contract with Epic AFTER the launch of The Division 2. And no doubt they got lots of money from Epic for doing so.

In other words: I believe Ubi still has an active exclusivity contract with Epic. The delay of upcoming Ubisoft games may even extend the exclusivity window.

Yeah, the Ubi situation is probably due to their deal being more thorough than simple exclusivity cash ins. I honestly expect those games to just be permanently exclusive, much to Ubisoft's dismay considering their major 2019 releases heavily underperformed and they could use the extra revenue streams lol

If that's true, Ubisoft probably underestimated the effect of long term visibility on Steam. While the sales during the launch windows may have been good, Ubisofts games keep selling well on Steam for many years after release. No one visits the uPlay store unless a long awaited game is being released. And while Ubi's games are in EGS' best-selling list as well, I assume these sales are more lower than they would have been on Steam.

Anyway, I hope Ubisofts greedy moves will cost them lots of revenue and consumers loyalty on pc. I don't feel like buying their games anymore (which is not a huge issue for me since their latest games were boring me to death)

while I do beleive remaining off steam isn't helping them, I do believe a major factor is that their games as of late play the same and most have a GaaS model*. Can't speak for everyone else obviously but I feel like their games as of late have become a bit soul-less. Also, fuck the way they ended the AC Odessy dlc's. they made the main character in the modern world unlikable.

*Not trying to hate on the GaaS model is just that only a few have done this well.

Oh yes Breakpoint and The Division 2 being garbage surely didn't help, but it's not like being shit has stopped games from selling.

So my countries economy is crashing hard right now because of COVID-19 and boy its such a great way to compare EGS and Steam.

EGS (still) doesn't support my currency, while Steam does. So CAD taking a massive nosedive the past week is really making EGS look like a horrible option for Canadians. (Even though it already was pretty bad.)

Currently, a $20USD game usually runs at 21.99/22.79 on Steam if the developer uses Valve's default pricing. But if I wanted to pick up a $20USD title on EGS, it would run me $30CAD. Obviously, the higher you go the worse the pricing gets.

So basically, Thank god for Steam at a time like this.

This week, The Stanley Parable is free on the Epic Games Store. We made this move even though it provided no direct or tangible benefit to us, the developers. That’s right, it was done purely out of the goodness of our hearts because we are kind and altruistic people, and all we want is to make consumers happy, no matter the cost to us personally.

It’s unprecedented for a game to just be given away for free like this, so please be sure to tell all your friends about it so that they don’t miss out on this history-making event. I don’t know what wikipedia page collects data about “most generous development studios in history,” or something along those lines, but if you happen to know where we can find that page please forward it along so that we can add ourselves to it.

Oh wait, hm. Okay, The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is still coming out later this year, and that one is DEFINITELY going to cost money, so like, just promise us that you won’t get so sick of playing the original Stanley Parable that you decide to pass on Ultra Deluxe. Maybe just play a few endings of the original in order to get yourself nice and excited for Ultra Deluxe?? Look, you can do this in whatever order you want, that’s your right as the consumer. All we’re asking is that you find space in your heart for both this free Stanley Parable and the definitively NON-free Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe. Hey, after how selfless and generous we were with the free version, I think you owe us something.

(Also, I just want to note that this EGS deal has no impact on the release of Ultra Deluxe, and does not in any way impact Ultra Deluxe’s launch plans and platforms. We’ll announce that closer to release.)

In between taking time to volunteer at the animal shelter and going in to read children’s books to orphans, we are still working hard on The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, and we are excited to share more with you about that later in the year. We hope you are all having a lovely spring, and please take time to remember our motto: BE UNREASONABLY ALTRUISTIC TO ONE ANOTHER!

And also please send along that wikipedia link if you find it.

WRC 9, like WRC 8 will be EGS exclusive.

Looks like BigBen/Nacom/Whateverthefuck is going to release the yearly titles on EGS, then release last years model on Steam to scrounge up a few bucks.

Hey if Epic wants to waste their money on mediocre Bigben titles go ahead I guess.

Not a particularly interesting section of games other than maybe Samurai Shodown.

What has happened to EGS exclusives the past few months? It was something totally different last year.
