Oh I fully believe that the masses think hogwarts or that shitty porn game is that good, that's precisely why I don't take user reviews seriously. That's the point I'm trying to make. Why would you listen to the people who would think COD is the greatest game ever every single year?
It's funny that you mention COD when the last cod has one of the worst reviews scores on steam for the series.
I know your shtick is to be overly negative about everything but i feel like your brain broke after Rebirth underperformed despite glowing reviews.

That's the point I'm trying to make. Why would you listen to the people who would think COD is the greatest game ever every single year?
But you don't need to listen to someone that thinks COD is the best game ever, you need to listen to someone who thinks in the same way you do, this is the important part about Steam reviews
Every individual has it's likes and dislikes, and the same is true for critic reviews. Both critic reviews and user reviews are nothing more than a metric but they will never paint the full picture. What a user is supposed to do is find the one review which alligns the most with the way he/she thinks and use that to decide if a game is actualy worth buying. Let's make an example with oh boy of course it's Super Robot Wars. SRW30 has a metacritic of 79, uh I actually expected less, regardless this doesn't mean that 30 is better than Star Wars Outlaws, in fact there is no point in even comparing them because they are completely different games with completely different budgets, gameplay, artstyle, progression, even price and so on. On Steam it has 5654 with a 85.22% rating, again pretty high, but again this doesn't mean it's universally considered an 8/10. Let's say I never played it and want to read a detailed review of the game to decide if I'm interested or not. Also let's skip the more obvious likes and dislikes otherwise I wouldn't even need to read a review ("I don't like games with anime artsyle", "I don't like SRPGs", "I don't like mecha", "The game looks too low budget", "I don't like it's JP dub only"), I find a positive review (doesn't matter if it's a critic review or a Steam review) but I notice a few points I'm not convinced, which can be a lot like "the game is too easy even on the highest difficulty" or "the game is too long for its own good and gets boring before the end" or "some units have bad animations". These points are all negative points I agree with, but they're not enough to not make me interested in the game, and that's because I also notice other positive points like "the game is potato friendly" or "I played 100 hours and didn't have a single crash or bug", or "I'm a fan of Gridman/L-Gaim/Majestic Prince/Victory Gundam and I appreciate how much love this series got", or "the story and the crossover interactions are good". This is the point I'm looking for, a score is just a number and there is no proof I will actually agree with that number. BG3 won GOTY, but if someone doesn't like cRPGs then that award is meaningless, and the score won't actually serve any purpose. That porn game has a 96% score, fine, but that only means 96% of the people that bought it got what they wanted out of it (which is, most likely, beating their meat). SRW30 has a 85% score, again that means the 85% of people that bought it got what they wanted out of the game, or, to say it in a different way, it means the game resonated with the correct audience. And that's the important part: critic and use reviews are only a mean to find a game that resonates with you, a way to find if you belong to a specific audience
The main point here is that many games will never have many critic reviews (or may not have critic reviews at all). There is a old school SMT inspired Touhou game which has 0 critic reviews, but the game has 706 Steam reviews (91,48%). The positive reviews highlight how the game is good even if you don't know Touhou, or highlight how good the dungeon crawling feels, or highlight how the game feels like a modern take on SMT-if and so on. Without those someone may skip the game simply because they read "Touhou" and don't know what it is. Yes, if you dislike dungeon crawlers then it's all moot, but that's why it's important to find reviews that resonate with your ideas

So it looks like a decent PC would still cost ¥30,000 more than the PS5 in Japan. So still not an ideal situation.

By the way the entry level Steam Deck OLED is just ¥5,000 more than the PS5. And the non OLED steam deck is now cheaper than the PS5 in Japan.

I like how there are some Japanese users mentioned how that doesn't include the price of M+KB or the monitor. And how there are some that mention with the PS5 that doesn't include the price of your house + a sofa. (An argument as old as time)

Derrick01 gonna have a meltdown next year when Rebirth launches on Steam to mixed reviews and sells nowhere near as much as some 20$ porn game

I see your point, but would argue that not every person need to buy a complete new rig, and many of them definitely prefer pre-build. Like you said, some will go for the Deck. But if they already have a PC, they can just play games on it rather than paying extra money for a PS5.

Dear God, Concord might be the biggest sales flop of all time.
That summer marketing will go down as one of the worst ever.

They spent millions on that CGI trailer full of characters stealing some thing at some place. And no one gave a shit.

Such a colossal waste of dev resources. Imagine if they made a singleplayer campaign for the game. Like it used to be in the old times when FPS games had a campaign and it was backed by a multiplayer mode. Even if they did like a short 3-4 hour campaign it would have probably given the game longer legs since it would increase the likelihood of people giving a shit about those GoTG type characters. And also justified that 40$ price tag.

I don't know why Sony approved something like this. You have a reputation and so does your first party teams. If you really gonna flush money down the toilet like this then just give that money to Disney and make an full on GotG FPS hero shooter straight from the films if that is how it needs to be. Let the developers cook for some more time and release something people would actually care about. The way this was done was just sad.

Given how weak the Yen is, they had to either make a choice to eat the cost, effectively selling the console at a loss, or increase the price to slim margin. Will be interesting to see for what price the Switch success will sell in Japan. Given the super weak Yen, I would not be surprised if it launches at higher launch price than the Switch originally did.
Honestly I think they've given up on Japan completely with the PS5. The only way they can hope to crack that market again is with a portable.

Things are really getting out of hand in Japan. Ironic that it would be the country that would see first the effect of "consoles are cheap" that the majority of the world as known as false since forever...

But it's also everything around consoles that is stupidly expensive, games and peripherals are ridiculously overpriced, and for that one Nintendo is all too happy to participate, including the ever present subs. I know families living there that really slowed down on buying Switch games and videogames in general (the retro gaming market being pretty much wiped out now doesn't help either, it became a collector's market and gone are the days of finding good deals).

It's no wonder that mobile gaming is so big, and that the midrange sees a big PC resurgence.
I have no doubts the Switch 2 will be popular, but we all know how many people struggle, and if it costs close to 70k yens with games that sell for nearly 10k?
That will only accentuate that trend of consoles being a luxury and not made for those dirty peasants... the time of consoles sold for 99 bucks with cheap second hand games is far away.

That doesn't make any sense since I've felt this way about steam reviews (user stuff in general) for the longest time. The fact none of you can respond to anything without taking some jab at ff7 shows insecurity in yourselves, not me.

Derrick01 Lets say I like CRPGs, which I do, and lets say a new one comes out then Steam reviews would be pretty good place to start seeing if it is a good one, because it will be mostly people who also like CRPGs that post reviews, so if it has a 99% positive rating then I know I will love it. Doesn't mean it one of the best games ever made, it just means it's a good one if you like those kind of games. That's what's up with the porn game you posted about. If I wanted to play a porn game, and as you said the one you posted about seem very well regarded and thus a good place to start. Hell it even made genuinely curious even though Im really not into games like that.

Does anyone know how to turn on Steam notifications when a wishlisted game gets a demo? This was supposedly added as a feature a month or so back when Valve changed how demos work on Steam, but I haven't gotten a single such notification, even though a number of games on my wishlist have gotten demos since then.

For what it's worth, personally I wasn't taking a jab at the game itself, it was a jab at you constantly talking negatively about everything except ff7.
I don't have any opinion about ff7 remake/rebirth since I haven't played them yet (I did play the original though). I'm considering waiting until the whole trilogy is out on PC.

Sorry, didn't mean literally everyone lol I'm just used to this on discord too, the go to move for anyone who wants to try to get under my skin is to attack ff7. It's a predictable, cringe, whatever other word the youths use these days, tactic.

Well just speaking for this year it's been a really weak year outside of rebirth. I have not yet played everything I wanted to, I think I just have yakuza 8 left, but everything else was mediocre or worse. I'm looking at the new mana reviews and it seems to have turned out how I expected to- completely forgettable and average. So cross another one off the list.

I looked around the client and couldn't find a setting, but if you follow a developer you'll receive an email notification. I got one for the Epic Mickey demo earlier.

Going live in 3 mins. Crown makeup ready?
Balatro collabs? Already better than ONL.

Isn't it a cost thing though? Disney demands insanely high amounts of money in order to use their IPs. Which is why Spiderman 2 was reported as not having even broke even (one of the reasons). I think EA also said that's why they are going to stop making Star Wars games after they lost the exclusivity to the license.

Going forward you may see a few Marvel or Star Wars games, but it will mainly come from people willing to pay. Take Netease. They seem to be willing to pay for Marvel Rivals since they think it will make a lot of money. Ubisoft likely made their deal for Star Wars Outlaws before Disney changed the terms. I don't think Insomniac was able to though. Unlike other devs Insomniac has a track record of not needing as long of a dev cycle for their games.

I still think the new switch will be around ¥45,000, it may even be at around ¥50,000

Everything is getting more expensive and it will only get worse in the future will certain genres just disappearing since there are not enough people in Japan that are willing to pay for such expensive games, since incomes are staying the same and everything around is increasing in addition to fewer young people.

Some Japanese game that I don't think Durante has ever heard of before

nice to see a date for the Suikoden remasters even if it isn't until next year, more Balatro is nice too

i'm not sure how I feel about the Sky remake to be honest, so little of it was shown and i've always been pretty skeptical about the general idea of remaking those games since I think they'll probably just be worse than the originals

I want to care about Graces F since I like the Tales series and i've never played it but as much as I enjoy the combat systems in the Tales games I always feel like they age pretty poorly going back to old ones

Sky is apparently releasing worldwide in 2025

Assuming this news is true, this would be an absolute novelty for Falcom. A true day-and-date release for a "new" Trails game.
(Also wondering if PH3 has been working on the PC port already 👀 )
I imagine that probably means any script changes will be pretty minor

which actually makes me feel a bit better about it since I really doubt I would view any major changes there as an improvement

I'm not the audience so it's pretty much whatever but I'm not really sure what's the point of adding break gauge to that Sky remake (or any modern Kiseki combat elements as it just gets worse with each game).
