Finished my first game of 2024. Took about 13hrs with the Jill run.
Had this in my backlog for many years. I bought it with Zero which I played a bit a few years ago.
Never played it before but I did play the OG on the PS1. It had to of been one of the first games I played on the PS1 alongside some sports titles.
Glad I finally got around to this because ofc the game is incredible. The difficulty, puzzles, inventory management, boss fights and length were all perfect. Its like a nice blast from the past in a remake fashion. A balance of nostalgia with a modern touch. A few areas were completely blanked from my memory tho like the courtyard area. Anyways always a pleasure to play old school Japanese games like this from that late 90s + early 2000s era. You know a video game is great when you beat it and immediately want to do another run. I'm kind of thinking about it with a harder Chris run now.
And it looked really fucking good on the Deck too at 60fps. I did need to use ProtonGE with it otherwise cutscenes didn't work. But yea the shadows, textures and even all the little particles/bugs/effects throughout the game really shined on the Deck screen. Kind of crazy to think this was a gamecube exclusive for so many years. And this is a remaster of a remake lol. Capcom always doing the weirdest fucking timelines.
Honestly I'm surprised they didn't remake this yet in the 3rd person like RE2/RE3 recent form. It would be even more terrifying and clostrophobic than RE2 remake was imo. I mean it has to be the next RE thing from them right? It feels too soon for them to remake 5 and 9 is something that will probably cook for a while.
I would also love for them to release all the originals untouched on Steam. Maybe just do a complete PS1 + PS2 collection with everything including Code Veronica + Outbreak for Steam. We need it for legacy/preservation purposes just like Konami did with MGS games.
