Laughs in six years of french in school. ;)
That's the defining thing about french.
Don't worry, even most french people don't know how to write french, and sometimes how to pronounce french words :steam_cleanseal:

Do you know we even have words directly "translated" from other languages with a very "local" pronounciation ? Gas-oil became gazole. Shampoo became shampooing (or sometimes shampoing) pronounced "à la française". Yes, the "action" became the name of the product. :unsure:

I'm sure there's a lot of similarities in English or other languages ("entrepreneur" is a funny example). Always worth it to look for the origins of daily used words. :steam_cleanseal:

Ohhhhh ffs ! After years of delaying a real playthrough of XCOM 1 I started it on a whim. Several hours into it I discover that I had Enemy Within unchecked.
Can you install and start the xpac during a walkthrough or do I have to restart ?

Edit - Some steam review say that it isn't compatible with windows 10 ? What ? :dizzy-face:
Looks like you just need to verify integrity cache to get XCom properly working. Looks like it just has to do with the XCom DirectX 9 update failing. I just tried this myself as I hadn't played XCom since installing it last and this is what I ran into and how I resolved it.

Streets of Rage 4 is so damn good. Seriously, the game is fantastic. Playing it with the retro ost kicks the nostalgia into absolute overdrive.
How does it compare to Streets of Rage Remix in terms of fun / etc?

It would be cool if strange games could at least have a demo. I'm eyeing Lobotomy Corporation after Aaron D. feedback, but it's a gamble.
That's what Steam's 2-hour refund policy is for! :p

But yeah, it can be tough taking the plunge on smaller productions with low-level coverage. I mean, if you're curious about the latest Assassin's Creed release, there's TONS of reviews, gameplay videos and user impressions to pour over. Makes it easier to be sold one way or the other. Plus that whole AAA sandbox/rpg-lite gameplay loop is sort of a known quantity that you're either drawn to or not.

Something like Lobotomy Corporation? Well that's another story.

I've found that connecting with YouTube personalities that cover niche genres goes a long way toward discovery. People like SplatterCat, Nookrium and Tomato's Trash have completely destroyed my wallet & free-time with all the hidden gems they've unearthed. That and like-minded posters here and elsewhere keep the discovery-momentum going to a point where I don't even have enough time to enjoy all the indie goodness on offer out there, let alone the mainstream hits.

That's how I plugged into Lob Corp. It was actually a Tomato vid that sold me, but I've found Sinvicta's walkthrough to be more straightforward in providing an game overview through its opening segments. If you want to just straight to gameplay it starts at 11:35.

Anyway, looks like you have a couple days to still take advantage of that -50% sale.

I will say that while the game is a strange mish-mash of genres, it's one of those deals where if you're even slightly interested in the premise it's an easy recommendation.

tl;dr - Nab it while it's still on sale, 'ya cheapskate! Refund it if you don't like it.

PSA to rest of world: Stop assuming we're idiots.
I think depending how things on Nov. 8 turn out, anti-American sentiments might reverse a quite bit or reach a new all-time low.
But yeah, generalising a country of 300 million souls is a bit dumb.

And so, I finally played a few minutes of the first in a "wave" of Psikyo ports for PC by CITY CONNECTION.

It's been a while since I played STRIKERS 1945, but yep: the game remains a lot of fun!
I buy a lot of shmups on Steam, but a big portion of the games released are bullet hell games, and I'm much more partial to "classic" shmups, where you basically use your reflexes to dodge bullets, and that's enough. Being stuck in a small section of the screen without moving, because that is the only place where your hitbox isn't touching bullets that fill the screen, is not the same thing for me. I know a younger portion of shmup fans, especially in Japan, love this subgenre, but give me a classic shmup any day of the week, and I'm a happy man. :)

Anyway, after reading some mediocre comments about the Switch port of the game, I'm happy to say this new PC port doesn't disappoint.
It plays well, looks well (I can't wait to receive my new monitor, so I can rotate the screen 90º, and played it in TATE mode!), and I pretty much have no complaints.
Well, I do have a small one, that is sure to be patched soon: I have to use ALT+F4 to quit the game, since they forgot to add a quit button. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

If you like the game, or the genre, do consider giving this one a go.

After some time without receiving a "wave" of classic shmups, here we have another publisher giving Steam a go, so it would be nice if sales for this (and the rest of the upcoming ports) were decent, to show there's an audience on PC for these games.

Also, coming this month:

More than likely with the way things are going Trump will end up winning again. The Dem party is split and will likely not "unite" for a long time unless some

I thought that there was no way that he would win in 2020 but it seems that people didn't learn from 2016

As for the Anthem Reboot might that sort of be like Fallout 76. By which I mean things might potentially get better? Fallout 76 isn't perfect but people seem to at least agree that it is in a much better state now.

Also EA just stopping Battlefield V and Battlefront 2 is something.

What's the difference between Desktop and Notebook drivers for Nvidia? I was looking to update my drivers and noticed there's a hotfix for 445.87 which has an issue with the shader cache. I can only find links that say Notebook in the name. Is that a problem for a desktop 2070?

Stevey That's what i was wary of and why i held off but the fix notes mention Notebooks for some fixes but not for others which is confusing me. lol.
I'll just go up one level to 442.59 while i wait for the dust to settle on this one.

I still have near-zero faith for the playable end result, for now, based on their past works, but the art side is looking pretty promising. That's basically how I remember Atolm and Shelcoof being, great interpretation of the trademark ancient technology materials and everything, unlike most other post-trilogy efforts.

Isn't that the problem of English language? How it written and how it spoken can be very different.
Ever heard about homographs? How words spelled the same but with different pronunciation entirely changes meaning?
Swedish is filled with them.

Some examples:

kön = gender
kön = the queue
kön = the pool cue

matris = matrix
matris = food rice

min = facial expression
min = mine

planet = the plane
planet = planet

sen = late
sen = then

Fun huh?
I've heard that this is one of the hardest things to learn about Swedish...

I got Doom Eternal 'for free' as I sold some stuff last summer, used the money for steam credit and got it along with the Doom 64 bonus :shrugblob:
I don't regret the purchase, but this is gonna be a dealbreaker going forward.
Like consider Ubisoft; hardly any site would be offering it for 25% pre order discount, then a month later, bam 25% off if not 30~33% off
Now apply that to any other single player game from notable publishers and developers....

Just save your cash, play your backlog then once its summer or winter sale realize you've cleared enough games that you can put time towards that game that just went 40-50% off during the sale.
Looks like you just need to verify integrity cache to get XCom properly working. Looks like it just has to do with the XCom DirectX 9 update failing. I just tried this myself as I hadn't played XCom since installing it last and this is what I ran into and how I resolved it.

Game is good in its own right. Takes the basics of beat'em-ups and its score mechanics and encourages going for an enemy KO/attack chain build up to get score for extra lives if you need it later.
Each of the 5 base characters have their own tricks far as chain their attacks and specials goes too. Cherry can run, Adam can dash for example.

Finally decided to pick up Doom. I loved 2016 but don’t remember for the life of me what difficulty I played on.

I settled on Ultra-violence for this one. Hope that wasn’t a mistake.

Yes, wonderful art all around.
Do you use RetroArch or have good experience with emulators? To know what/if I should private message (to not clutter this).

But the gist of it is. Most of the games can be enjoyed stand alone but do tie into each other so one might as well play them in order of release.

Panzer Dragoon. Cool for its era on-rails shooter with great art/music but there's not that much to it (I'm probably a heretic to the fandom over this opinion).

Panzer Dragoon Zwei. A sequel that was a distant past prequel and took everything to the next level while also adding the first real depths of the lore.

Panzer Dragoon Saga. A distant future sequel that is a wonderful condensed goodness JRPG as epic as its reputation and finally let us explore that crazy world.

Panzer Dragoon Orta. Another great shooter on most accounts but in my (heretic) opinion quite a watered down take on the art and lore of the best of the series.

Panzer Dragoon Remake. Probably a better way to experience the original once it's all fixed up but still nothing to write home about from what I've seen.

Panzer Dragoon Voyage Record. Good or bad, something to play after experiencing the bulk of the series for sure, given its remix style of homage content.

There are also the fully skippable Panzer Dragoon Mini on Game Gear, Panzer Dragoon Tiger Electronics abomination and an Orta promotional flash game thing. Also some re-releases on other platforms, like Panzer Dragoon on the PS2 as a Sega Ages release (it's also bundled in Orta) but little to go out of your way for.

Super Mario 64 with full mouse support is dreamy. I just need proper fullscreen in OGL, and a pro-hud mod that removes the unnecessary elements of the hud.

I have a thing for 3d platformers with mouse camera control. It's my jam.

A new, free, mini-game, that takes place in the Thimbleweed Park "universe", is now available on Steam (and, for the masochists, on the EGS 🤣):

And, if anyone doesn't own the original game, it's currently on sale as well:

I know my way around emulators but I can't say I'm not disappointed to hear those are shooters. Isn't it a bit of a waste with such lore and art? Or is it worth it in ways I don't know? To be entirely honest, bullet hells and shmups aren't my thing ^^".

It's worth it yes, they're not shmups but more Starfox-like with twists of their own (ie 360 degree on-rails gameplay rather than always front facing).

And like I said one is a JRPG and the primary part to play is the trilogy (or even duology if you decide to skip/youtube the original based on my heretic ways).

If it's not worth it to you for the shooters that build up to it you'll have lost what, 10 hours assuming some retries to complete them at once without all unlocks?

Maybe half that. And of course it's not a waste to have great art, design and potential for lore regardless of the genre, that shit makes anything better.

How's the replayability? I was interested in the game, but lost interest because the abnormalities seems to have fixed characteristics. The enjoyment of SCP etc. is discovery of unknown things. Felt like after few playthroughs only management would be left without none of the mystery. Specifically, does anything change between each playthrough, like how unidentified scroll of same color would have different effects in each session of roguelike?

Do not use the notebook drivers, everything about it is different. Notebook drivers are specifically designed to account for lower power consumption, better efficiency and other stuff u would want in a battery powered device.

Great post. This franchise is very dear to me. I owned a Saturn back in the day and these games are unforgettable experiences.
Saga is one of my favorite games and very few jrpgs since have reached the same level.
I don't have a switch so I'm anxiously waiting for the steam version of the PD remake. I know it's not perfect but after so many years of thinking that the franchise was dead and buried I'll take it.
